The quicker-thinking Chris started freaking out. He shouted something that (Y/n) couldn't understand and ran back to the cafeteria. The girl stood there, at this point she had sat down on the damp grass, and processed. What the fuck is happening? How could this happen to her? W-why would anyone do this to Robin? She-she was so nice and maybe she didn't show it but still she was so nice and didn't deserve this and who would do something like this and how didn't I notice my friend was away and I wasn't even looking for her -an-and now she's dead oh my god she's dead she can't-

A soft, warm hug enveloped her. Calloused hands softly rubbed her head in circular motions and dried away her teary cheeks. Somehow, she was now sitting on the sofa of her solitary home. Captain Hall mumbled words of comfort which fell dead to her sorrowful, shocked state.

He held her tightly. His arms snaked around her and his head laid on top of hers, isolating the girl from the outside world. She couldn't see his expression - not that it would've changed anything at this point. Robin's death was a breaking point; it was a wake up call. (Y/n) hadn't felt attached to someone in so long, and now that she had that person was gone - gone. Forever. Before the girl could surmise the obvious, a masculine voice returned to her ears, caring yet decided.

"Oh, (Y/n). You must be devastated. I'm so so sorry." He whispered. "But you don't need to think about her anymore. I'm here for you, and I don't want you to be sad."

The lonely soldier wouldn't even remember the hours that followed. How Eric cherished her embrace as he let his fingers feel the texture of her short hair, or how his eyes stayed glued to her as he watched the girl fall asleep. But once again, that wouldn't have changed much, as she awoke alone on her bed, as usual. 

Except everything was different.
