(Y/n) froze. Her whole body tensed up. Now alone with Rigel, her mind raced with scenarios. Would she be scolded, harmed, fired? In only her first day, she failed at the most basic task of her job. She was definitely screwed. Rigel's expression didn't give any hint of what he would say, only that he was pissed. How much did he know? The girl tried to think of a strategy to get herself out of this mess, but couldn't decide if feigning ignorance was better than owning up to the mistake. The silence only made it worse. If she wasn't sweating before, she surely was now.
"Tell me about your day, (L/n)." he ordered. The tension in the room increased. Was it a trick question? Rigel wasn't the type to personally care about his team, so why ask about her life? She tried to stutter out an appropriate response.
"Uhm, well, it was okay" she paused and wiped the sweat building up on her upper lip. No matter what she said, there was no getting out of this. And he knew that, because before she could even continue he cut her off.
"(L/n), it was definitely not okay. In all my time working for the Emperor I've come across incompetent people. Some couldn't fire a gun, others pissed themselves at the sign of danger. But I've never met someone like you. You're not just incompetent, you are incredibly stupid. I'm actually impressed."
That felt like a slap in the face. Though his words stung, (Y/n) tried to hide it. And despite the anger in his voice, Rigel was expressionless as he continued berating her.
"I'm really sorry, I should've let someone know I left, I didn't know what to do." the girl tried to explain herself but to no success. She wanted to mention that there was no training on appropriate protocol, but that was probably not the best time to do that.
"Not only do you fail to investigate a potential situation, you also abandon your position without alerting anyone. You should be fired on the spot. Interrupting the Emperor during his duties should be grounds for more. If it were up to me, you would go back to whatever shithole you came from and never be taken seriously anywhere in the Empire. But before that, the Emperor himself wants to speak to you."
(Y/n) had to let her brain catch up. This was clearly a colossal mess. She still didn't know if Max found the person that they saw, but that was just part of the problem. Rigel said she interrupted the Emperor, which could only mean that the man she came across earlier must have been him.
What could he possibly want with her?
If she was going to be fired, Rigel could've done that himself. What did the Emperor have to tell her? He made it very clear that she had to leave. She remembered how his piercing eyes could have bore a hole in the center of her forehead. If there was anyone that scared (Y/n) more than Rigel, it was the Emperor.
Without caring to give her time to prepare or respond, Rigel ordered her to follow him. And without any other options, that's what the young woman did.
Hellooo! It's 5 am, I am sleep deprived but I like writing in this state. After a slight mental breakdown I am finally forcing myself to write some more here. Sorry about taking such a long time to update, and once again thank you for sticking out.
The story is about to take a turn here, and I think we are about halfway through. I do plan on editing and improving everything once I'm done, but I want to focus on finishing the first draft first.
One last thing - let me know what you think about the characters so far! I personally hate Rigel lol. If y'all miss Captain Eric, don't worry, I haven't forgotten about him ;)
