Before her thoughts could wander off too far and uncover hidden secrets, (Y/n)'s reading session was interrupted by a sound coming from the library entrance.

Captain Hall stood at the library entrance with his well-kept attire and straight posture. Although he had just brought everyone's attention to himself, the Captain just stood there nonchalantly. (Y/n) remembered the scene in the cafeteria. Although Eric Hall was at the center of conversation, he always seemed distant.
(Y/n) only noticed he was moving towards her when he called out to her. It was weird. Although she heard the man's voice every day, it was different hearing him call out her name. (Y/n) instantly stood up in a mixture of respect and slight fear. The feeling soon passed as he addressed her.
"Where did you find these books?"
Although the answer seemed obvious, considering they were both surrounded by a plethora of books of different sizes, shapes and colors; Captain Hall had asked that because he recognized those very books, books he knew the contents of and how purposefully hidden they were. In his mind, he wondered how much she had read and secretly hoped it wasn't much. (Y/n) wasn't supposed to know... at least not yet.
"They were on one of the shelves back there." A brief moment of silence followed but before she could ask another question he stood up and beckoned her to follow him. (Y/n) let him guide her out of the library and they walked together towards the more populated area of the compound. The female took the opportunity to ask one of the many questions plaguing her mind.
"Eric, the books used the term Empire and Federation interchangeably. Did the Empire use to be a Federation with, like, states? Is that why the book's outdated?"
Captain Hall's eyes looked at her, a mysterious glint in his eyes. "Not... exactly. You see, politics is complicated. Some things have to be omitted from the external eye. The intercontinental community doesn't agree with the way our Emperor leads, so he just sells the image they want. Very boring things that you don't need to worry your pretty little mind with."
(Y/n) tried to piece the information together and only realized Captain Hall had left her at her doorstep when he cleared his throat. His wore a charming smile but his eyes bore straight into her soul. "I'm sorry I can't entertain any more of your questions but I have something to attend to. You can always come looking for me if you need to talk."

(Y/n) opened the door to her shared home and saw the blonde girl standing next to a monitor on the wall. She wouldn't have noticed the girl entering the space hadn't she crossed in front of her.
(Y/n) felt a sudden spark of determination. She knew that although Robin didn't have access to all the information Eric had, she still knew things. Her roommate, although she didn't blatantly say it, was always wary of the people in the soldiery. She'd been apprehensive towards Captain Hall and how he treated (Y/n), so the girl could only assume she had a reason. The girl tried to be tactically empathetic.
"Say, Robin, are you busy?" (Y/n) asked casually as she sat down. Her friend sat beside her and shook her head, signaling for her to continue. "I was wondering about, everything, basically. Do you know anything about the 'Reborn Federation'?"
Robin went quiet. She gazed to the left, eyes glazed. "I don't usually talk about this because I don't trust people here, but I think I can tell you." she started. "Outside of the Empire, people call us the Reborn Federation, Newfounded States, and other names. The idea is that the Emperor doesn't want to let anyone know how corruptly he leads.
My brother was a part of the soldiery. During the last war, he met a lot of people from outside and he talked to me about things. Things maybe he shouldn't know, like how our Emperor enforces 'order'." (Y/n) thought of her life before joining the soldiery. Almost a forgotten memory, images of poverty, control, and fear crossed her mind. Robin continued "one day, I received a message telling me he had died in a battle. But I knew something was off. That's why I came here. I had to find out what happened to my brother.
And so I investigated. They keep logs of which groups go to which battles." She paused and moved closer to (Y/n), eyes wide. "(Y/n), he was never on that battle. I asked everyone I could but no one gave me an answer. You know what this means right?"
"They got rid of him. They murdered my brother."
Dun dun duuuuun.
Yes. I am back. Hey, hi, hello. I'm very sorry about the month-long break. I know where I'm taking this story but writing gets hard sometimes. FML.
Anyway, I won't take too much of your time. What do you think so far? How does everything fit in to the story?
Also, my word of the day was 'nonchalant'. Try to use it in a sentence!
See you (hopefully) soon!
