The rest of the morning contained more exercises and weapon training, now with technical explanations of how to do each one accurately. As she walked with Robin to the cafeteria, (Y/n) felt her sore muscles throb, begging for a break. Although Robin had been there for a while, she was also tired and eagerly awaited whatever cold beverage would be served at lunch. Trotting slowly, the girls conversed about the day's activities, and (Y/n) took the opportunity to learn more about her friend.
"I can't even believe it's been this long since I've been here. Time goes by fast I guess." Robin continued explaining how she joined the soldiery. She said she 'just had to' after her brother died and didn't mention it further. (Y/n) admired her for leaving her life behind to replace her brother in the soldiery, it was truly a brave thing to do. And she seemed to have had a good life before that: wealth (or at least all the wealth the Empire would allow), a family, friends, a home. (Y/n) couldn't relate but she could understand what it would take to completely change her life like that.
"Were you and your brother close?" She asked. Robin tensed up before answering.
"We were inseparable. Like two parts of the same person. I remember the day he left to serve the Empire, it was like moving away from a childhood home: I knew he would always be there and I could see him every now and then, but I still missed him as if he'd died." Robin explained with a faint smile. Her eyes, however, were distant and glassy. (Y/n) didn't know what to say but before she got a chance to think of something, they arrived at the cafeteria.
The room was loud and people seemed more energetic as they ate the weird-looking food. Surely, it was infused with some sort of high-protein supplement that provided the energy they would need for the rest of the day. 'Less food, more payoff ' is probably what they were thinking of when producing these, (Y/n) thought to herself. Although it was disgusting to look at, this time the food had a surprisingly decent taste. Robin added her own theory on the soldiery food. "They make morning and lunch food taste better so we eat more of it, but dinner and sweets are usually tasteless, so a lot of people don't even get them. I think it helps balance out the amount of nutrients we need to eat without consuming the resources the cafeteria is given."
They thought about it and kept theorizing what the abnormal ingredients could be, and soon enough, lunch was over. A loud bell echoed around the area, and people began getting up. Robin and (Y/n) followed and made their way to the next training area.

The building they entered was clean and empty. Large windows brought in the warm afternoon sunlight which illuminated the whole extension of the rectangular room. Still, the white walls and blue-grey accents made the space seem cold despite the natural lighting.
This time, Captain Hall was nowhere to be seen. Instead, a tall, lean man stood close to the back wall with a team of people in light blue clothing. A counter sat behind them with several objects on it. As more people began filling the room, the tall man introduced himself.
"Please settle down." he began calmly. "I'm Dr. Carr. Some of you may know me from previous tasks. Today my team and I will be showing you the latest war technology my lab has been developing. Brigitta, if you please." He gestured to a girl with curly hair who held a grey sphere. The device fit in the palm of her hand, and if she held it in her fist it would be perfectly concealed.
The girl held the sphere up, displaying it to the group. Dr. Carr resumed his explanation. "This is what we call a B-O-O-M Ball." People in the group eyed each other silently. "I know. Very creative. We are responsible for designing technology, not naming it." Dr. Carr said with an honest smile despite the sarcastic comment.
"So it's just a grenade then?" A voice asked from the back of the room.
"Yes, it is a grenade. A voice-activated grenade. It's simple and discreet design optimizes the explosion and the surprise element. Don't be mistaken; although it may be small, this little thing is powerful."
Once he said that, a male in square glasses and a light blue coat pressed a button on a control pad and the ceiling opened up. Brightness seeped into the room and (Y/n) squinted her eyes. In a flash, Dr. Carr threw the ball outside through the now open ceiling. As it approached the ground, he simply said 'boom' and set off a violent explosion outside. People gasped and (Y/n) even felt someone beside her take a step back. The rest of the afternoon was filled with Dr. Carr explaining the different gadgets he created, their functions and usability.

"My favorite one was definitely the health sheets." Robin said as the roommates made their way back after the long day of training.
"The ones you eat or the ones to cover a wound?" (Y/n) asked, tilting her head.
"EW! Obviously the ones to put over wounds! I can't even imagine having to eat that weird rubbery film!"
The girls laughed together and agreed that it would be best to stay hurt than eat something that looked worse than cafeteria food. They kept walking towards their living quarters peacefully before the girls caught sight of something. On the other side of the path, Captain Hall strolled in their direction. He looked at (Y/n), who glanced at Robin since she was better at reading situations than her. Robin furrowed her eyebrows for a moment but then said she would wait for her inside. At that, (Y/n) was left alone, waiting for Captain Hall to catch up, wondering what he could possibly want with her, and why Robin went inside before he could reach them.
Tehee, sorry for leaving this in a cliffhanger.
I have a question. Does the universe description get a little tiring? Like, is the training day and all of the gadgets and whatnot overdone? I feel like it is important to set the mood but I don't want to exaggerate and make it boring to read. Plus, I need to write something to fill in and give time for character relationships to form.
Yeah, that's it for now. I'm writing chapters ahead of time so I don't have to deal with writer's block, but I'm already behind T.T
Wish me luck!
