The morning announced itself with a loud ray of sunshine. This felt familiar, strangely familiar, as if it was a normal day and everything would be the same.

Except this couldn't be more wrong.

Her eyes opened, her nostrils flared, her ears perked up.

The room looked the same. It was silly to think that after such a devastating event, the whole world would stop to mourn. But no. Life kept going. People would still work, make jokes and laugh. The sun would still shine, as if (Y/n)'s daily beam of happiness hadn't been killed.

And of course, her room wouldn't mourn the loss of its previous owner.

(Y/n) didn't know how, but she managed to get up. She was now walking over to the usual training spot, trying to ignore the thoughts of how she and Robin would have been bantering on the way there. Thankfully, someone showed up before the girl got too sad. He had a sad expression on his face as he approached his favorite subordinate.

"Hi," he started softly, as he usually spoke "how are you holding up?"

(Y/n) went with the standard "I'm okay" that meant she wasn't okay at all. But she didn't need to explain. Eric understood. He always understood her. He fought the urge to lay an arm around her back and settled for patting her arm.

They walked together to the open field, where everyone was organized by hierarchical position. The duo separated, both upset that they lost the comfort of one another. (Y/n) joined the small group of people in light brown uniforms and looked around. Everyone seemed to be waiting as they stared at a small podium that was placed a couple of meters in front them.

The tall man from a couple of days before once again showed up. He wore all black and had a stern aura. With a straight back, he walked up to the makeshift stage with other men in black uniforms trailing behind him. He looked at the crowd and everyone felt silent, eager to see what the authoritarian man had to say.

"Good morning all. As I said before, four of you will be chosen to become the Emperor's bodyguards. With observation of your training and the recommendation of your leaders, the best candidates were selected. Note that you were handpicked, so this is not an optional position." Beside her, (Y/n) could see a girl fidgeting with her fingers in anticipation.

"This means you will leave this compound and be moved into the Imperial estate. To keep this brief, I will now call your names. Please stay here so you can be given further instructions."

(Y/n) was relieved she would finally be able to go back to her room. This seemed to be a waste of everyone's time, the man could've simply called each person individually. Well, at least she could rest for the remainder of the day, since everyone would be busy with this news.

While she was stuck in her thoughts, it seemed that the group had become restless, and people were whispering and moving around. With a clear of his throat, the slender man commanded silence. It was almost scary. The girl was happy she wouldn't have to deal with him in the future.

"Now, the draftees are:

Max Rossi

Will Klein

Daniel West

and (Y/n) (L/n)."

Okay literally I'm so sorry for the basic bitch names for the new characters. I'm very uncreative and I want the names to be easy to remember.

That said, I am excited for where the story is going from here. Think of this as the end of phase one.

Any predictions for what comes next?
