Gary looked at the pink setting sky and took a deep breath. His built figure glimmers under the sun like the God of War with blood and corpses of the monsters living in the dark forest surrounding him. In his hands was a long clean sword.

After a while, Gary's eyes looked at the mess around him before putting a few games into the bag he brought to bring home for supper. As for the rest, the scavengers will clean it up for him. Judging by the fact that it was lightly snowing, the cold atmosphere, and the slowly darkening clouds, Gary knew that a snowstorm would arrive soon. He took what he wanted and left the scene. The second he left, the scavengers who were hiding in the dense forest rushed out to get a piece of their supper before the storm hit.

"Is it about time?" Gary wondered on his way back to the cottage. He looked at the half-moon that was in the slowly darkening sky and frowned a bit. It seemed that it was getting closer to the date again. He counted the days since last time with his figures and counted again before feeling reassured. "It seems I still have some time," he sighed.

Snow began to fall heavier as Gary continued to walk to his cottage. After a while, he got to his destination, and the first thing he did was to put the bag by the door and open the fire to warm up the little house. The fire cracked and slowly lit up the room and warmed up the house. Gary added a few more woods to feed the fire before he got up to prepare the meat. When he picked up his bag to go to the kitchen, he noticed something extra in the room, or more particularly on his bed. There seemed to be an obvious red sack of something on his bed. Feeling cautious, he slowly walked toward the red that was on his bed with his sword in his hand just in case.

"Would it be another attempt?" Gary thought.

As he got closer, he would slowly see that it was a young woman around his age unconscious on his bed. Her eyes were closed and she was breathing slowly, but her skin was pale like snow. Her brown hair that was tied neatly became messy because of the wind and the bed. The red veil was crushed under her head. The red wedding kimono that covered her body was wrinkled and with stains of mud and ice. On her feet, her flats were not taken off.

"What a beautiful girl," Gary said unconsciously. "But what is she doing here in the cold wearing like this?"

Gary placed down the sword he had next to his bed and held the girl's hands in his so that he could have her sit up and take out the needles and pins in her head. However, the second he touches her hands, Gary shivers and quickly draws his hand back. The girl's skin was as cold as it was pale like snow. It was as if she had been tucked outside in the snow for hours until she found shelter and fainted. Gary sighed in defeat before he tried again, this time, carrying her to the chair next to the fireplace to warm the girl up.

Gary first slowly took the veil off of the girl's head and undo her hair. He ran his brush through her hair a few times to comb out the tangles she had. Then, he went to boil some hot water to wash her face, hands, and feet to get some heat flowing into her body. While he waited, he took off the girl's shoes. The veil, hairpins, and shoes were placed on the table next to the basket he saw.

Curiously, Gary laid the things from the basket out on the table to see what was in there. There was some bread, fruits and vegetables, nuts, and dried meat. He slowly examined every one of the foods before placing them back in the basket.

"The girl must have brought it with her," he thought.

When he heard the water boil, he walked toward the kitchen and poured it into a small basket. Walking back to the girl, he wetted the towel, and wrung the towel out after the water cooled down a bit to wash her face. Gently, he dabbed the towel on her face, slowly washing away any makeup the girl had on her face and her red lipstick. Then, he cleaned the towel and changed the water to soak her feet and warm up her hands.

"Ugh. Why do I feel like I am a nanny here? I didn't even get paid for this," Gary muttered and complained as he dried the hands and feet of the girl. He went and grabbed an extra blanket for the girl and wrapped her around like a burrito before putting her back on his bed. He looked at his work and felt proud before cleaning up his mess and began to clean the meat for dinner.

It had been a long time since Gary had seen someone this deep into the Dark Forest before. The Dark Forest is known as a cursed forest. The deeper the forest, the more dangerous it is. There is a way for people to pass the forest if they knew their way enough. But it is the fear of the beasts in the forest that leads to no one entering the forest unless necessary.

Gary had been living in the forest for as long as he can remember. He saw many humans, besides the ones who helped him in the past, which helped him learn how to survive in the forest. Occasionally, he would glance at the girl on his bed while cooking and eating his dinner. Many questions clouded his mind while he ate.

"What brings her here? Would she be lost in this forest? Or would she be another one sent by them? It could happen. Let's just wait until she wakes up," Gary stated while eating and nodding his head.
