Leaf's eyes flickered as she gained consciousness. After a while, her hands twitched, and she slowly turned her head side by side.

"Why can't I move?" Leaf wondered when she realized that she was having trouble turning around. Her eyes moved side by side under her closed eyelids as she gently moved side by side like a rocking boat to test her movements.

Slowly, Leaf opened her eyes. The first thing she saw was a brown wooden ceiling. She panicked after she noticed that it is not the same roof in her house. Then, memories of the previous day flashed through her mind.

"Oh, yeah. I was being sacrificed yesterday and then came across a cottage in the middle of the forest. I guess I am still alive then if my heart is still beating right now. But, why can't I move?  I don't remember bounding myself to anything before I went unconscious. Please don't tell me that I had delivered myself to another crazy person again. I wonder if the owner of this cottage is home yet?" Leaf thought in her mind and let out a small sigh.

Leaf's question was answered when she heard a light snore nearby. She froze. She can hear her heart rate increase tenfold as she listens to the snore nearby. Leaf was not used to someone close to her. Even before when she lived in the village, the villagers never really got close to her because of her blood.

Leaf's eyes turned toward the snore and saw a mop of short brown hair next to her, covering a sleeping face. She cannot see the body of the person. But based on the arm which the head is on top of, Leaf predicted that it is a man next to her. She tried to wriggle a few inches away from the man.

Because of his sensitivity in his senses, Gary was awake when he first felt Leaf's movement. He decided to pretend to stay asleep in case he scared her away. He can feel Leaf's eyes examining him for a while. When he felt the bed shook a little because of her wriggling. This time, Gary opened his eyes and sat up. He stretched and shook his arms before he looked at Leaf in front of him. He placed his hand on Leaf's forehead to check her temperature

Gary nodded in satisfaction when he felt that Leaf's temperature was back to normal. Now that Leaf was awake and warmed up, she looked younger and more lively. He noticed that Leaf was looking at him with caution and wanting to move, he leaned forward and started unwrapping the blankets that wrapped around Leaf like a burrito.

"I see that you are awake. Are you hungry? You look healthier and livelier than last night, but you still look sick. I think you haven't eaten yet? Let me make you something to fill your stomach. I don't have much here and can't make much, but I am sure they are edible and not poisoned. Do you have allergies or specific preferences?" Gary asked after he unwrapped Leaf and turned to go to the kitchen. "I have placed your things on the table for you, and your food is in the kitchen. Are you lost in the forest? You dress as if you are going somewhere. I am guessing that this is your first time in the forest. Where are you from? People should guide you through the forest. It is dangerous here, especially for a young lady like you."

Leaf stared at Gary as he nagged. She never had someone worrying about her before, so she was confused. She wondered why someone she never met before was feeling concerned for her when her whole village was against her.

"May I ask who you are?" Leaf asked quietly after Gary finished speaking.

Gary, who was in the kitchen making broth using the bones from yesterday's meat, looked up at Leaf and stared right into her eyes before looking back at his work.

"Ahhh. I forgot to introduce myself, didn't I? My name is Gary, Gary Oak. What about you?" Gary replied.

"My name is Leaf Green," Leaf answered.

"Leaf? What a nice and original name," Gary complimented. Leaf knew that he was not making fun of her and was genuine about the compliment because of his serious tone and face.

"Where are we? Are you the owner of this cottage?" Leaf asked. She carefully looked around her environment and found it smaller and cozier than last night. The fire in the fireplace was out and left only ashes on the spot to show that it existed. Everything was clean and tidy as if Gary had cleaned the cottage every day.

"We are in the middle of the Dark Forest. To be exact, we are at the middle level of Dark Forest. And yes, I am the owner of this cottage. Don't worry. I don't bite, usually," Gary said, ending with a joke and giving Leaf his charming smile. "You can use the water in the pan to wash up. They are clean, so don't worry."

Leaf returned with a small smile of her own. She then got out of the bed and put on the flats that were placed neatly on the floor. She then walked to the table which has her hairpins placed side by side from smallest to largest and the water pan. Leaf saw her face was clean when she saw her face clean of makeup. She looked at Gary in the kitchen after washing up.

"Do you live alone?" Leaf asked.

"Yep. No one usually enters this end of the forest. It is quite deep after all, you know. Which reminds me, where are you from? I will guide you back home after breakfast. Your family must be worried about you," Gary said.

Leaf looked at Gary weirdly. "Have you ever heard of brides?" Leaf asked.

"Hmm? What?" Gary looked at Leaf with an eyebrow up.

"You don't know? Leaf asked.

"No, I don't. But you caught my curiosity. What is this bride thing?" Gary asked, leaning on the kitchen counter and looking at Leaf while occasionally checking and stirring on the pot to make sure that the soup was not burned.
