When Leaf woke up the next morning, Gary had already left. The other side of the bed was cold. She looked around the room with confusion, wondering where she was before she remembered that they had arrived at the mansion last night. She got out of bed after a while and stretched her body.
"Ugh. It was better than sleeping on the floor last night, but I guess it is still dirty," Leaf thought to herself.
Thinking about what happened the night before, Leaf blushed. She remembered the warmth of Gary that night and his touch around her waist as if she was something precious. It was a foreign feeling in her heart, making her trust the person she was with for a few months. Leaf cannot say that she hated the feeling because Gary made her feel special. She knew she shouldn't be feeling this way, but she was lucky that Gary had the curse and was alone. Otherwise, she would not have survived.
Leaf shook her head and patted her face a few times. "No, Leaf. That is very wrong to think such a thing! You need to clear up! Let's help Gary first," she scolded herself before she reached under the pillows to take out the mirror that she had taken out last night.
Leaf studied the mirror for a while with interest and fascination. Last night, she saw that the mirror glowed a bit before it died down. She was unable to study it since she was worried that Gary would wake up. She still hasn't told him about the things she found, so she still feels guilty about having it.
She flipped the hand mirror a few times with her eyebrows raised. She then used it as a normal mirror, which is to look at her face. She sighed after a while of not noticing anything.
"I wonder where Gary is now," Leaf sighed out loud as she placed the mirror on the bed.
Just as she said that the mirror glowed. Leaf quickly picked up the mirror again and gasped. Luckily, she didn't drop the mirror. Inside the glass, it was showing a broadcast of Gary in the middle of the forest, trying to hunt down game for dinner while keeping an eye out for other intruders. He was squatting inside a tall bush while eyeing a game.
Leaf stared at the screen. After a while, the screen slowly turned back to a normal mirror. She was confused. She tilted her head and wondered what happened. Based on the screen, it didn't seem that Gary was in danger, so she didn't know why it was suddenly shown. She also didn't know if it was showing the current time or some time in the past. She thought for a while.
"I want to see the old cottage that I used to live in," Leaf said and looked into the mirror.
Nothing. There was no response from the mirror. Leaf tilted her head. She placed the mirror back to its place under her pillow and then started doing some cleaning. She didn't want Gary to question her about what she was doing the whole day. She would feel guilty about it.
Leaf started to look around the rooms to see if there were any blooms or cleaning supplies she can use to dust the floors. She was able to find the things she needed so she went back to the bedroom and started to clean. It took her a while to clean up all the dust, but it wasn't as dirty as Leaf had originally thought.
Once the bedroom was cleaned and a bit livable, Leaf decided to find the kitchen and clean the place, as well as to figure out what things are missing. She didn't know if Gary was actually hunting right now, but if he was, it would be nice to have somewhere clean to cook and eat.
Leaf went around the mansion to explore the big place after she cleaned the kitchen. Since it was not the first time she entered the place, Leaf felt a bit more familiar. However, there was still this feeling of her that she cannot release.
She walked around the place for a while and eventually found a place of what seemed to be an office. It was dusty and messy with papers all around the floors as if someone or something had run through everything.
Looking at everything, Leaf went to sweep and dust the room while picking up papers. It didn't take long for the basic cleaning to be finished and all the papers picked up. Leaf was curious so she decided to look through some papers and drawers in the room, as well as if there were any secret entrances. Leaf was not sure if someone had taken any papers already, but there was no information in here that was useful. The only thing that was of little use was a small framed picture of two women and a man. One of the women was Leaf's mother.
Leaf pocketed the photo before leaving the room. She continued to clean and explore the place while looking outside the window to check on the time. It was slowly getting dark. Leaf looked out a second-floor window and into a distance in thought. She didn't know what she was thinking, but there was something that was in her mind rent-free.
She returned to the bedroom and took out the mirror. This time, she will try again. She kept asking the mirror to show where Gary, May, or Dawn was but no luck. Leaf went into her bag to grab the journal and diary to begin reading about anything to do with mirrors. She was able to find some information about the mirror, such as where it was found and some other possible information. However, now to use it was never specified.
Leaf groaned a bit before she threw herself on the bed.
"There must be something about the mirror. I just need to search for it more," Leaf thought. She suddenly thought of the love story that she used to read before her mother went missing. It was a story about a young girl befriending a beast. They ended up falling in love and lived happily ever after.
Leaf unconsciously touched her ears and frowned a bit. She didn't believe in love, but she remembered a part about a mirror in the story. She frowned a bit but sat back up while holding the mirror. She will try again.
