Leaf would be lying if she said that she was not bored. While staying with Gary's friends in a nearby village for a few days is nice, she quickly got tired of the busy streets and the chattering of the people. After months of staying in the forest with Gary, isolated from the rest of the world, it had become a part of her to enjoy the peace of nature.

However, Leaf was grateful for everything her new friends had helped her during her stay in the village. It was comfortable and relaxing, but Leaf knew that things were not going well, especially when she overheard that Gary was missing.

"Do you know why they were worried?" Leaf asked one afternoon while helping to prepare the bread dough.

May sighed as she wiped her sweat with her sleeves. Her hands were powdered white and covered with flour. "Well, the men usually know where Gary is. I guess this time, they have no idea where the man can be."

"I have been telling them that everything will be fine. Gary is a grown man now. He knows how to stay safe. Of course, they have to worry about him. What can we say? However, it is understandable as to why they worry," Dawn added into the conversation.

Leaf nodded her head as she listened to May and Dawn talk some more about the situation. She cannot help but be a little worried. After all, Gary was the one who kinda saved her a few months ago and didn't kick her out. She was able to live peacefully because of the man. Leaf prayed that nothing happened to him.

While she was worried about Gary, she also had something else to worry about. Her mother's last entry ended with an open interpretation that made Leaf want to know what happened to her. Ever since she was isolated from the other villagers in her village, Leaf never knows what happened to her mother. Every time she asked someone, they would glare at her or just ignore her altogether. She hadn't seen her father since that day either. She hoped that nothing bad happened to her mother.

"Leaf!"

Leaf got out of her thoughts and looked at May who was staring at her with worry.

"Is there something wrong, Leaf? I have called you so many times. You seemed to be in deep thought," May said with a slight frown.

Leaf shook her head. "Thank you for worrying about me. Everything is fine," she responded.

Dawn nodded her head. "Everything will be fine, sweetie. I know you are worried. I am sure that everything will work out."

Leaf smiled at their comfort words. She took out some bread from the oven and placed it in a basket.

"I am going to make the deliveries, then," Leaf said as she prepared to leave the small house. He put on her red hood and her brown boots with red bows.

"Go ahead. Be careful along your way, okay?" May called from the kitchen.

"I will, May. I will be right back!" Leaf called before leaving the house.

The street outside the small house was filled with noise, from the cries of children to the hoof of horses. At the busy hour, everyone was busy with life.

Leaf quickly wandered along the busy street to make the delivery. She quickly made her way back after dropping the bread off. In an unknown village, she didn't want to stay outside for too long. She walked along the edge of the forest as she walked back from her trip. Occasionally, she would look at the busy street, where she doesn't belong.

Suddenly, she heard a noise in the forest, a noise that wasn't there before and was definitely not made by nature. Leaf stopped walking and looked into the forest. She cannot see anything out of order, besides the rustling of the bushes near her.

Lead narrowed her eyes. She looked back to the busy street and then back at the forest. Her curiosity cannot be held within her as she took a step and walked into the forest.

Leaf's eyes were alert as she looked around. With every step she took, all she can hear was the crunch of the grass, dried leaves, and twigs under her feet. Carefully, she walked deeper into the unknown.

After walking around her a bit and noticing that nothing was wrong, she turned around and decided to go back. The sun is about to set and she felt that May and Dawn would be worried. She had already troubled them by staying in their house.

Just as Leaf turned around, a hand came out and pulled Leaf deeper into the forest.

"Ahhh!!" Leaf screamed as she turned around and swung her basket at whoever it was that pulled her. She knew that it was not a creature because they would not have held her that way.

"Ouch!" the person exclaimed. He let go of Leaf's hands for a second before holding onto them again.

Leaf recognized the voice and looked at the intruder.

"Gary?! What are you doing here?" Leaf exclaimed. She quickly bent down and looked at the wound she caused on Gary's forehead.

"That is my question. What are you doing here?" Gary groaned.

"Well, hunters found our hut. But your friends saved me and brought me here for a while until the hunting season ends, at least," Leaf replied. "Your turn."

"It is just something that I have to do," Gary said. He then gagged and pushed Leaf away.

"Tell Drew and Paul that I am fine. I will see them in a few days. Something is happening," Gary said.

"Why don't you see them yourself?" Leaf asked with one of her eyebrows raised.

"I can't. I have to go now," Gary said. He slowly stood up from the ground and helped Leaf up.

Leaf looked at Gary. "That is not logical. You have to give me a good reason."

Gary sighed. "I can't. At least not now. It would be dangerous for the people. Just tell them that the length seemed to be extended."

That was the last word Gary said before he disappeared into the forest again.
