The school were full as always. My shoes clicked and echoed as I looked around. It was an ordinary Thursday so I couldn't really blame them.
There were students who had arrived too early, sorting out the things inside their lockers.
Their sounds of gossiping and shoes filled the place as they went to their respective classes.
I sighed, seeing that I couldn't see some of the girls in the same grade that I'm in.
Most of the students here were seniors. I couldn't really engage in a talk to them right now anyway. I barely knew them.
"Eysee!" Someone called me as I then turned around to see who it was. A familiar friend of mine came running inside and stopped right in front of me, panting.
"Gunyeo? I can't believe you ran all the way here. It's still early." My eyes couldn't believe that he rushed in so suddenly.
I mean, this was Gunyeo. He's one of the star students in here. It's impossible for him to be late.
"Where did you and Naehyun went? You both left me yesterday," he frowned as he told me this. Oh right, I totally forgot.
Keeping a straight face, I heard Gunyeo complaining right beside me.
"Did you know how embarrassing that was? They're our seniors at school. I'm the youngest one in there."
"Terribly sorry. Naehyun wasn't in the mood so I had to go with him," I replied as he then nods back at me.
"Where did you go yesterday? You guys never came back at the restaurant."
"We went home after we went to the convenience store. Sorry if we hadn't informed you guys." He then understood and just nodded his head in agreement.
Suddenly, a lot of students went near the bulletin board as they saw a new posted announcement.
"That's probably about the quiz bee."
Gunyeo then rushed off, leaving me behind as I waited for him. I guess he's looking at who's going to be his competitor.
Seconds later, Gunyeo came rushing to me.
He then grabbed me in the shoulders, shaking me and surprising me with his loud voice. "You didn't tell me you were going to compete the quiz bee too!"
"Compete? Compete where?" I raised my eyebrow at him before taking of his hands. "I haven't listed my name yet. I'm still deciding if I should. How could this---"
I couldn't help but widen my eyes when I realized this. No, it couldn't be. He was the only one I told this quiz bee about.
When I stared back at Gunyeo, I excused myself and then ran away - deciding to go up the 2nd floor.
Seo Naehyun! That guy!
As soon as I reached our classroom, I decided to open it loudly - catching the attention of all our classmates.
Naehyun was sitting from afar, his eyes casted on his report while he was wearing his black headset.
I didn't even hesitate to approach him, take one of the chairs next to him, and sat in front of him. "Naehyun!"
He was astonished when he saw me and decided to close his book. Wearing an innocent smile, he then asked me. "Yes? Do you need something, See-ya?"
"You know what you did," I answered with a frown. Instead of laughing though, he gave me a weird look as if he didn't know anything.
"Did what? I don't understand..." he then trailed off as soon as Jihun walked in our room. There was a hint of mischief in his eyes as he decided to lean on the wall and look at us.
Ah, this is probably a payback.
I then gave him a smile before crossing my arms. "Clever. Let me guess, you wanted payback. For ditching you four yesterday."
"That's right. Based on your reaction, I'm sure you're not a part of that quiz bee. You wouldn't run if you wanted to compete," he told me while snapping his fingers.
I could completely tell that he based his guess on what was the obvious actions I did.
"I'm guessing you just took interest on that quiz bee but definitely won't join." I can't help but gave him a giggle and nodded. He's wrong about that, though.
"I heard you talking to Heejun, you know."
As soon as I went back to my seat and sat down, that's when I decided to flip his assumption. "You know, you had me fooled..."
"But, you're absolutely wrong." His smile faded as soon as I set my bag and took out my notebook. Smiling back at him, I decided to joke about it further.
"I'm interested in that competition. I just hadn't had the time to fill my name on the entry list though." The frown on his face already told me that he wasn't expecting that answer from me.
"Thanks for doing it for me. I appreciate the effort, Jihun---" I continued with a mocking tone as soon as I saw him glaring.
"---sunbae." He almost growled at me before he decided to leave and walk away. After he did, Gunyeo came rushing in with the paper on his hands. He probably didn't notice him right away.
"Eysee, you can't!" His eyes were wide and he kept on waving his hands as if to tell me that I shouldn't.
"What? Why not?"
"Uh...there's limited slots!" He concluded as I waved him off. That wouldn't be a problem to me. I already had that solved.
Looking back to him, I scrunched my nose and squinted my eyes. "Wait, don't tell me that you're scared?"
"Scared? No, I'm not!" He furrowed his eyebrows at me as I then shrugged. But I could tell that he already was. He was the defending champion after all.
I won't fall for it though.
"I already told Heejun about it and told him to reserve me a spot," I simply answered. He then sat down next to me and looked at me as if I was crazy.
"Do you really think Heejun would accept? You're not that close to him, you know."
"Oh, I took half of his work on the student council. You and I are both class representatives, right? So, it's no big deal."
"Heejun wouldn't let you get his workload. I know that he-"
"Ask him then. Like I said, I'll join." After that, I decided not to push it further and let him find it out for himself.
He was giving me a look as Naehyun stared at the both of us with his headset now on his ears.
He's probably confused on what we were talking about. After all, I did thought that he was the one who plotted this.
Though, Gunyeo's reaction wasn't what I expected from him.
"I won't let you."
I then smirked at him. Even if he would try to stop me, I won't change my decision.
"Like I said, Gunyeo. I will compete against you. There's nothing you can do to stop me."
