Sweetest Mistake

Chapter 10

I did not know how to react with the information I have heard. And I don't know if any of that is true, but I am very aware that irritation already got into my nerves.

That is why when the next day came, I did my best to search for some information. I discreetly asked some of my block mates about my subject. I started to ask them questions about the known personalities in school and both Aidon and Therese were mentioned.

Akala ko pa noong una ay wala akong mahihita sa mga tsismis mula sa kaklase. Almost everything that they said about Therese were positive. She is a consistent dean's lister. She's active in both academic and non-academic organizations. Once was hailed Miss UDB of our college. Kind. Bubbly. Pretty and very amiable.

If one of my classmates had not mentioned Princess, I would have had given it up.

"Sus! Hindi naman niya sadya iyon!" pagtatanggol ni Ruth.

"Ni hindi nga siya nag-apologize-"

"Nagsorry naman siya a."

"Parang kunwari lang naman iyon. Hindi sincere."

I shifted my weight as I tried to process their statements.

"Nasa sa'yo na kung paano ite-take ang apology ni Ate Therese. Basta nagsorry siya."

Umismid naman ang kaklase namin.

"Eh iyong si LJ nga na groupmate tinarantado niya rin e..." the girl murmured.

Mukhang inis na inis si Ruth kaya nagdesisyon siyang tapusin na ang usapan at lumipat ng upuan pansamantala para makipag-usap sa iba.

Kahit na labas sa prinsipyo ko ang manghalungkat ng buhay ng may buhay, nanaig sa akin ang kagustuhang malinawan. I sighed and asked Zoey. I kept my eyes on my phone and tried to keep my voice cool so she would not get the idea that I am really interested.

"Si LJ, groupmate ni Therese sa isang klase. Nalaman niyang nagkagusto noon kay Aidon tapos sa harap pa niya tinutukso ng ibang kagrupo. Ayon, sinabihan niyang may meeting kinabukasan. Nang nakarating na sa meeting place si LJ, nichat niyang hindi pala natuloy dahil hindi raw puwede ang ibang groupmates."

Sinulyapan ko si Zoey at nakitang nakangisi ito pero tila dismayado sa kinukuwento.

"Mayroon pa nga iyong hindi tinanggap na member noong auditions para sa Debate Club e. Ang daming nagsabi na galing na galing raw si Therese noong una sa babae at siya pa ang nag-aya rito na mag-audition. Pero sa huli ay binagsak niya." Zoey laughed and shook her head. "Ang daming nagtaka, tapos may nagsabi na nadinig raw kasi ni Therese ang pagkakagusto noong babae kay Aidon at kinukulit pa raw nito ang lalaki kaya..."

Huminto ako sa pagscroll sa Instagram nang tuluyang lamunin ng mga impormasyon.

"Mabait naman talaga iyon si Therese, ewan ko lang kung bakit nagka-gano'n. Ang alam ko hindi naman niya type masyado si Aidon e, kasi ayaw nga masungit at parang may sariling mundo. Isang araw, pumasok na lang sila sa school nang sabay tapos ayon na... lalong naging usap-usapan si Therese."

I was too absorbed with my thoughts that I did not realize Zoey was staring at me. Agad kong inayos ang ekspresyon at umayos sa pagkakaupo.

"Hindi ka naman nakikinig e." he rolled her eyes.

"Sorry... may naalala lang ako. Ano nga ulit yung sinasabi mo?"

"Wala." Zoey chuckled. "Hindi naman importante iyon. Huwag mo nang isipin." Zoey smiled and borrowed some notes from me before writing on her notebook.

My thoughts are twirling on my mind like a hurricane. Even my heart does not know what exactly it feels.

Despite the lack of evidences, somehow I was convinced that Therese really did those bad things. After all, there's no smoke without fire. One more thing, Therese was not really interested with Aidon before, but after the day they went to school together, she got more popular and became riveted by him.
