Sweetest Mistake

Chapter 14

"Get in the car, Raven." He coldly said after handing me the keys.

Disappointed by the tone of his voice, I quickly turned and rode his car.

My eyes began watering as soon as I settled on my seat. He obviously does not want people to know about me. Kahit friend o acquaintance man lang sana, pero wala talaga. Ayaw niya sigurong may makaalam na magkasama nga kami, na nakatira nga ako sa bahay niya. I thought I'm just assuming that, but that scene confirmed it.

And now he's explaining everything to the girl he's courting in private, to reassure her. To tell her I'm just nobody. Now, I don't know what to feel. Bitterness? Jealousy? Remorse? Maybe a strong blend of those.

I fought the urge to look at them. I wore my AirPods and randomly played a song from my TayTay playlist. Pilit kong isiniksik sa kasuluk-sulukan ng damdamin ko ang pangit na mga nararamdaman.

I sat up straight when I heard the door unlocked.

"Sorry about that." Mas malamig pa sa bangkay niyang sabi.

Kita mo siya? Magso-sorry pero parang siya pa itong nagawan ko ng kasalanan? Siya nga itong nag-iinarte na huwag kaming makitang magkasama dalawa. Pupuwede naman sabihing nagtanong lang ako o nakisabay lang. Puwede naman siyang magdahilan na lang para makaiwas sa issue. Kailangan ba talagang itaboy ako nang gano'n?

What is so embarrassing about being seen with me? My God! I may not be the most beautiful person he has seen, but I have many suitors 'no. And none of them ever made me feel like my presence is humiliating.

Wow naman, Raven. Sino ba kasi ang nagsabing magtiis ka 'di ba? Ikaw lang din naman.

"It's okay." I said even though untrue.

And because he did not reply anything, I got curious and threw a glance at him. He was looking at the steering wheel intensely. Animo'y dinudurog niya iyon sa isip niya.

The corner of his downturned eyes slanted upward a bit. When he sensed that I was staring at him, he tilted his head and began maneuvering his car.

"I'm going to be extra careful next time." I said still looking at him.

His jaw tensed. Is he mad? Most probably. Baka nag-away sila dahil sa akin.

"Therese looked shocked kanina." Panimula ko kahit pakiramdam ko masisigawan niya ako anumang oras.

Hindi ko maintindihan, pero may parte sa aking gusto talagang malaman kung nag-away nga ba sila dahil dito.

"Na...galit ya...ta." Mahina kong sabi.

"Baka ikaw ang galit."

I recoiled in shock when he turned to me.

"Huh?"

Due to extreme surprise, I wasn't able to process what he said.

He clicked his neck and shut his eyes tightly. My lips parted as I continued watching him in awe.

Aidon opened his eyes and looked darkly at me. I shifted in my seat and averted my eyes, secretly calming my loudly pounding heart.

"Kung nagalit ba siya, aalis ka na?"

For a moment, my world stopped at what I heard from him. Quickly but silently, bitterness permeated my heart. I sat up straight and bit the back of my lower lip to maintain a hardened expression.
