I stood so quickly the stool toppled over and fell to the ground with an enormous crash. I grabbed the letter in a tight grip and stomped out of the house across both of our yards and pounded my fist on the door to the Manning house. Carter was the one to answer. As soon as he took in my expression of anger, he frowned.
"What's wrong?"
I shoved the letter in his chest.
"Read that! Then ask what's wrong!" I yelled at him.
As he read it his face paled.
"Ali....."
"No, don't even say anything! I asked you what was going on and you didn't tell me. He was on my front porch Carter! He could have gotten my mom! Johnathan is even closer to me and he's going after me! Don't you think that's something I should be aware of!" I screamed at him.
"Ali, your right. I should've told you. I just didn't want to worry you if I was wrong. I'm sorry."
"Well its a little too late for that! Now what we gonna do?!" I was almost in tears by this point and my words came out as a whisper.
He pulled me into his chest and rubbed my back.
"Shhhhh. Sweetheart, its ok. He won't touch you. I promise." He assured.
"Ok." I squeaked.

Ten minutes later, Carter had managed to finally calm me down. He now held me in his arms next to him on his couch.
"Are you okay?" He whispered.
"You really want an answer to that question?"
"Yes."
"No, I'm not. I'm scared."
"Don't be, ok? I won't let anything hurt you. Ever."
I snuggled into his chest even more. For some reason in his arms I felt......safe. I felt untouchable. Like anything that could possibly hurt me, couldn't get to me while he was near me. I'd never had this feeling before, it felt....amazing.
He held me for a few more minutes before he, besides my protests, got off the couch to make popcorn for a movie night.
When he returned he held popcorn in one hand and a blanket and a movie in the other. He popped the movie in the DVD player and returned to the couch. He laid on his side with his elbow propped up and I laid on my back.
"What movie did you pick?" I asked him.
"The Incredibles."
"Really?!"
"Yup!"
"Yay!"
The previews began and a question formed in my head.
"Carter, where are your parents?"
"The pack house. They live there now."
"Why?"
"I don't know. They wanted to I guess."
"Does it bother you?"
"Not really, I still see them everyday."
I looked up at the face of the boy laying by my side. He was amazing. He not only led a pack, but he took care of himself as well.
"If you keep staring at me, you'll never get to see the movie." He smirked.
"Shut up."
