I woke to my mom shaking me awake.
"Ali!!!Ali!!! Get up!!!!" She yelled.
"What mom?!?!"
"I've been trying to wake you for five minutes and you didn't even budge!"
What can I say? I'm a heavy sleeper. I had been sleeping on and off for the entire ride and we had finally arrived.
What I saw when I looked outside was not what I expected. Outside there was a huge square white house with a porch that wrapped all the way around. Not to mention we close enough to the beach to have sand in our yard.
"Woah." I breathed out.
"I know right." Said my mom.
"How could we possibly afford this?" I asked her.
"It was your grandmothers on you fathers side. When your grandma passed away and then your father died the house went to us."
My dad passed away six months ago. He was in a plane crash on his way to a business conference. The pilot lost control and the plane crashed into a cornfield in Illinois. No boddies were found since the plane had caught fire shortly after it crashed. Just another reason we jumped at the chance to leave Denver.
"Hey, why don't you go pick your room." She said quietly.
"Really?"
"Yep. Go right ahead!"
"Thank you!!!" I exclaimed throwing my arms around her neck and hugging her tightly.
"Your welcome honey."
I jumped out of the truck and walked to the door quickly. As soon as I stepped inside I ran for the stairs. There were four doors in the hallway and an open room at the end. I walked through peeking my head in the different rooms until the fourth room. It was perfect. It had light blue walls and white fixtures. There was even a window seat in the corner over looking the beach.
"I knew you would pick this room." My mother stated standing in the doorway behind me.
"Why?"
"He painted the walls and put in that window seat over there."
"Who?"
"Your dad." She whispered.
"Really?"
"Yep. He insisted the walls be close to the same color as the ocean, and then insisted that whoever stayed in here be able to see the beauty of the ocean. He built it for you. We were planning on coming here this summer for vacation and he wanted to surprise you before you went away to college." She said quietly, sadness in her voice.
I walked over to where she was standing and wrapped my arms around her.
"Come on enough of this let's unpack so I can go return that truck and you can go shop!" She said pulling away.
" Ok."
An hour and a half later we were finally done. My closet looked so empty with barely anything in it. The climate was completely different here. In Denver I only needed one pair of shorts. I think I need a few more pairs for Florida to say the least. I threw on said shorts and a white blouse with some sandals.
I walked downstairs and found my mom lounging on the couch waiting for me.
"Ready to go?" She asked.
"Yep. Let's go!"
It was only fifteen minutes to the local mall so mom drove dropped me off for a while.
"$100 enough?" She asked me.
"Mom, that's way to much!"
"No its not my new job pays a lot more. Take it."
"Are you sure?" I asked her.
"I'm sure."
"OK. Thank you! I'll walk home. See you later!"
"OK honey see you at dinner!"
"OK"
And an hour later here I am, carrying bags of shorts, tank tops, a few blouses, and a new white fringed swimsuit. Now I was in a home decor store looking for stuff to decorate my room. So far I had a white full length mirror, some blue magnets, a black fuzzy pillow, and a dark blue threaded pillow. All in all after I bought this stuff I would still have about $8 left so I decided to head to the food court to get a pretzel and a side from Subway. I was not looking forward to walking home. Sure it was only a fifteen minute walk but I had to carry five big bags due to every thing being on sale.
I finished up my snack and left the mall starting to walk in the direction my mom drove. I may have had a little help from the GPS on my phone.
About ten minutes into my walk a guy passed me knocking into my bags making me drop one of my bags of clothes.
"Oh! I am so sorry!" He exclaimed looking up at me.
He had brown hair, tan skin, and amazing brown eyes. Not to mention he was shirtless.
"Uhhh, its OK. Don't worry about it!" I assured him.
"Hey, aren't you my new neighbor?" He asked.
"Am I?"I asked him in return.
"Uh, yeah. I think so. Didn't you just move in to the big white house with the wrap around porch?"
"Yep."
" I live in the beige house next door with the balcony railing on the roof."
As he said this I vaguely remembered seeing a house next door.
"Oh yeah! Nice to meet you, I'm Ali!"
"Justin.Hey, are you walking home carrying all those bags?" He asked.
"Yeah, its no big deal."
"Here let me carry some!"
"Oh no you don't have to do that!"
"My pleasure! After all I did almost run you over!" He laughed.
"Well if you want to, go right ahead!"
"Come on!" He said grabbing a few of my bags and walking towards our houses.
We talked the rest of the way there. Apparently he was a junior at the local high school that I would also go to starting tomorrow. Something I was not looking forward to, at all!
When we got home there was a car parked in Justin's driveway and his face went pale.
"I…uhhh…got to go! I'll see you tomorrow!! "
"And with that he set my bags on my porch and ran to his house as fast as he could. Well at least I had one friend, I think.
The rest of the night passed in a blur. And soon enough I was falling asleep thinking about the school I would be attending tomorrow. I really hope everything went well.
