I wake up to the most obnoxiously loud alarm in the history of alarms. "Fuck off." I groan loudly at it. It does no such thing. I hear Eden grunt from the other side of the room, waking up too.
"Make it stoooop." he complains.
"Man I'm trying. This thing has too many buttons." I finally hit the right one and relish the peaceful silence.
It doesn't last long though. June comes skipping into the room, plopping down on my bed. She leans down and pushes the hair off of my forehead, kissing me deeply.
"Ew" Eden snickers. "I can hear you two."
"You know what kid, you can fuck off too." I say, hugging June close and kissing her louder, just to spite Eden. He pretends to gag.
June, sadly, ends our kiss and sits up, clapping her hands. "Sorry to uh," she glances at Eden, "disrupt the peace but I have some news. Lucy called and she's coming at 10, not noon now, which means that we have 15 minutes to eat and get our asses over to your apartment."
"Shit." I say, sitting up abruptly.
"Ugh, does she have to come at all." says Eden and he looks sad all of a sudden.
"Yeah kid, but who knows, you might love her. She seemed all right yesterday."
He shrugs getting up and going to the bathroom. "Wonder what's up with him?" says June thoughtfully.
"Yeah...I bet I can guess."
"Care to enlighten me?" she asks
"Mmm nope. I care to kiss you. And then I care to eat breakfast." I giggle, pecking her on the cheek and walking out of the room. She laughs, following behind me.
Once we've all shoved food in our faces we walk across the way to the apartment and go inside. Eden clings to me more than usual but I don't comment on it. There isn't any furniture in here yet so we all sit on the floor and talk, waiting for Lucy.
At exactly 10 there is a sharp knock on the door and Eden jumps getting silent. June gets up and opens it and I stay seated next to my brother, I can tell he's nervous.
Lucy walk in, looking the same as she did yesterday. She looks like what the word productive would be if it were a person. She walks straight over and sits directly in front of Eden who shrinks back, almost hiding behind me. "What're you doing?" I laugh quietly, nudging him.
"Hello Eden, I'm Lucy." She holds out her hand and I nudge him again. He shakes it and then turns away from her, pushing his face into my shoulder.
I lean close. "Come on kid, do this for me please." He lets out a sigh and looks back, scooting out towards her but holding tight to my hand still.
"Hi," he mumbles. She gives me a broad smile.
"One moment, I have something for you." She turns and fumbles in her purse. After a few minutes she pulls out an old looking camera and sets it in his lap. "Daniel told me yesterday that you like figuring out how things work and fixing them. Any chance you can fix this for me?"
He picks it up, feeling around and holding it up close to his face to see. "Eden that looks kinda hard to do with one hand. You should let go of me." I say laughing. He shakes his head and I sigh. This is what I was worried about. "So Lucy, how are you today?" I ask.
"I am just fine, thank you for asking Daniel. And how are you?"
"I'm ok, I didn't sleep very much last night 'cause my car broke down and I didn't get home until late." I glance at Eden and he rolls his eyes. He know what we are doing but he still clutches my hand tightly.
