S.W.A.T. A new team member

Chapter 6

Hondo's S.W.A.T. team sat in the emergency room waiting for information on Chris' condition. So far, all they had learned was that Chris had several bad internal bleeds and fluid in his lungs.
Street had only sustained a mild concussion, a laceration to his forehead and some bruising, and Strong had only a sprain to his right shoulder, from the seat belt. Deacon's phone rang and he got up and answered it. He said "Yeah, okay I'll ask them. We're still waiting on the results from Chris' surgery. Yeah, I know. Yeah see you later. I love you too. Ciao." He hung up and walked over to Strong "Hey Strong, my wife Any wants to take you out to dinner. Would you like to join us later?" Strong reflected "Yeah I'd love to, that's really kind of her." A doctor came in and everyone jumped up "Well?" everyone asked at the same time. The doctor said "your colleague, came through the surgery just fine. She will be awake in the next few days. Recovery will probably take about two, three months. Then we'll see." Strong took a breath "Oh man, that's good news..." Deacon thanked the doctor for all of them.

Deacon drove with Strong to Any and the children's home. When they arrived they were greeted by Deacon's wife Any. She asked "How is Chris, is she going to make it?" Deacon smiled "She's out of danger, she'll be fine." Any breathed a sigh of relief. They went into the kitchen together, Any had made a stew and called her children "Dinner is ready." The three children came running into the kitchen. Strong looked at Deacon confused "You have kids?" asked Strong. Any looked at Deacon a little annoyed "You didn't tell her we had kids?" Before Deacon could answer, Any walked over to Strong and asked "So is it okay if you have dinner with us and our kids?" Strong thought "Yes, it's fine..." at the last words she became quieter. Deacon's daughter Leila came running up to her and asked "Are you my dad's new colleague?" Strong squatted down to Leila and answered "Yes and what is your name?" The girl introduced herself "I'm Leila. This is my brother Matthew. What's your name?" Strong smiled "You can call me Romy." Leila considered "That's a nice name." Any looked at Deacon smiling and Deacon said "Well, we should eat slowly or it will get cold." They ate. After eating, Any put the kids to bed. Deacon asked "Strong, you had said at the accident scene that the perpetrators were your family. What kind of family is yours?" Strong choked on her drink and turned pale "Well, my family is involved in crooked business. More like they are way up there in the illegal business. They wanted it to take them over but I refused. Now you have the results in front of you." Strong no longer had a bandage over her left eye. She said "Deacon, you and Any are really good parents." Deacon looked at Strong's face and saw that her eyes were filling with tears. He asked "Do you want me to take you home?" Strong wiped away her tears and replied "Yes, I'd love to." Strong said goodbye to Any and Deacon drove her to the high-rise.
