Chapter 5:

Morgan

“Please Morgan!”

“No Parker. It’s almost midnight you should be asleep.”

“Morgan!”

“Stop whining, you should be glad I let you stay up this late.”

“Psh, this was all her idea and you know it,” Parker pointed to Karen.

It was Saturday night and Charlotte and my dad had decided to go out for dinner together after Charlotte’s long day at the elementary school. Paisley had been asleep for hours and Graham was still with Mia. Karen came over after her work shift ended and I had been trying to get Parker to go to bed since then. Karen had other ideas.

“Okay you little turd, now we gotta listen to the party pooper,” Karen said.

“Hey! I’m not a turd.”

“You’ll see us in the morning Parker, please go to sleep.”

“I’m eleven. I can stay up late too.”

“Well Parker, we’re going to have girl talk now so unless you want to talk about hot boys with hot bodies-”

“Lalalalala I’m not listening!” Parker blocked off the rest of Karen’s sentence by covering his ears and dashing to the bathroom to brush his teeth.

“Shh! Don’t wake your sister!” Karen hissed after him.

“Genius,” I told her. I followed Parker upstairs and made sure his lights were off before going back downstairs to watch a movie with Karen.

“It’s my turn to pick the movie,” she said. She had already gone to the menu and pressed play, so when the Marvel logo came on the screen I had to guess which one it was. Which wasn’t very hard.

“Avengers again?” It was the modern remake of the 2012 movie.

“Yes, this movie is pure awesomeness, don’t deny it. Now, tell me about the environmental day.”

“Well, we sat around in the mud a lot and planted an entire vegetable garden behind the school-”

“No! I want to know about Seth!”

“Karen, I was helping Charlotte the whole time. I wasn’t even with Seth. What’s gotten into you?”

“Oh my God Morgan! He’s Seth Heveret and you had a whole day to hang out with him and you didn’t?”

“Why do you sound exasperated?”

“Because I am, Morgan.” She scoffed. “You’re ridiculous you know.” I chuckled at my friend while Fury got shot on the television.
