Chapter 4:

Seth

"Not dating until college my a-”

“Liz! Language!” I caught her before it came out of her mouth.

“Who are you, mom?”

“Don’t swear. You’re in eighth grade!”

“Whatever, but you like her.” Liz didn’t even look up from her phone as she said all of this.

“What are you talking about?”

“You told her getting the car wet was no big deal.”

“And?”

“And you flipped out on me when I spilled my Dr.Pepper,” she said this as if that explained everything.

“So?”

“So that means you care if other people get your car wet, but not her.”

“Liz, soda and rain are two very different things. Soda gets sticky and gross, water dries and it’s gone.” I saw her roll her eyes through the rearview mirror.

“Okay, well you still like her.”

“Liz, why would I give her a ride if I didn’t like her?”

“You know that’s not what I mean.”

“What do you mean then?” I knew I was just antagonizing her, but I’m her older brother, it’s my job.

“I mean you want to date her.” I laughed. “What’s so funny?”

“We’re not even close friends, Liz. I just saved her from getting pneumonia.”

“I never said you were close friends. All I said was you want to date her.”

“Whatever you say Liz.”

“Yes, whatever I say.” I rolled my eyes as I pulled into our driveway.

“You’re impossible,” I told her.

“Yes, yes I am.” I pulled the gearshift into park and looked down to realize Morgan’s phone was in the cup holder. I cursed and got out of the car, phone in hand. I grabbed my baseball stuff and backpack out of the back seat and went inside.

“Seth?” My mom called from the kitchen. Since I usually had baseball practice and occasionally Key Club afterwards, I’d usually not be home until seven or later.

“Yeah we’re home!” Liz called out. She immediately went upstairs to her room while I went into the kitchen with my mom. That was when Morgan’s phone started to ring. The contact said HOME so I figured that would be Morgan calling her own phone. I decided to answer it.
