|Third|
Lafayette is a quiet and 'strange' man, as said among his peers. He transferred only a year ago as a junior, but now he's a senior. He hasn't really made any friends except for his translator, Alexander, but they don't talk much. Lafayette spends most of his time in the library, reading by himself, and he doesn't think anyone notices him. He's wrong.
Hercules is near the top of the popularity pyramid as the captain of the cheer leading team. Although most people would think he spends his time partying, hanging with friends, and causing trouble, he's recently been using his time seeking the attention of a certain dark-haired Frenchman. They accidentally bumped into each other in the hall and he caught Hercules' attention, in more ways than one.
Finally, as prom got closer, Hercules mustered up the courage to talk to him. He was nervous, more nervous than he'd ever been in his entire life. After spending lots of days memorizing Lafayette's schedule and everything he did, Hercules came up with a plan.
They share two classes together. Third hour advanced senior world history and eighth hour physical education. After classes, everyday except Thursdays, Hercules has cheer practice for three hours. Every day of the week, Lafayette spends an extra two hours in the library before he moves from there to the school garden. They both go home around the same time. Hercules never stays after school on Thursdays.
Hercules planned on staying after school on a Thursday and going to the library where he'd talk to Lafayette up front. Thursday wasn't how he planned it to go.
To start, when he woke up, he found that he forgot to wash laundry so he only had one thing to wear, the feminine version of his cheer outfit. He didn't mind skirts, he enjoyed wearing them, but he'd have to wear it the entire day. He missed the bus so he had to walk to school.
He was late for his first class and the day just got worse from there. Hercules spent his last period staring at Lafayette when he didn't notice and wishing that the day was already over. He was very confident in himself as he watched Lafayette enter the library.
So, here he is now, hyperventilating behind a bookshelf. He looked around frantically, his mind a scrambled mess. He shook his head and muttered to himself about how he couldn't do it and he would be rejected and he'd be humiliated. Lafayette sat on the other side of shelf at a table. He quietly read in the silence.
Hercules bit his lip to calm himself down. He struggled to stay stable and in balance with himself. After a moment, he muttered to himself again. Stay calm, Hercules. You can do this, just go talk to him. The worst thing is rejection, that's all. Just have confidence.
Hercules took in a breath and started walking. He ignored his doubt and took a seat the table he was sitting at. Lafayette didn't move, he just kept reading his book. Hercules awkwardly drummed his fingers on the table before taking another breath and speaking.
"Hi."
Lafayette stopped, mid-page turn, and looked up. Hercules watched his dark chocolate eyes quickly dart around him in slight confusion. "M- me-?" He asked in a heavy French accent. Hercules nodded slowly and smiled a bit. "... Whatcha readin'?" Hercules asked, slightly leaning over the table. Lafayette glances at his book. "History of the American Revolution. It's a topic that I've recently become interested in," he responded.
"That's cool! You into history?"
"I'm actually interested in the whole battle part of history. You know, like wars."
"Ah. I like history, but I'm sort of into design. Like tailoring."
Lafayette sat his book down. "Hercules, right? We're in the same history class. You gave a presentation about one of the Sons of Liberty, what was his name.." Lafayette furrowed his eyebrows. "Okieriete. He's my favorite person in history and like my great-great-great-great-grandfather or something. You know who I am?"
"Well yeah, it's kind of hard to miss the captain of the cheer leading team. Not to mention how gorgeous you are." They both blushed and Lafayette covered his mouth. "I um- did not mean to say that last part.." he said, his voice slightly muffled. Hercules looked away and smiled a bit more. "Thanks.." he said quietly.
"... I'm Lafayette."
"I know. We also share PE."
"Right. Can you give me a moment?" Lafayette asks. Hercules nods and Lafayette stands up. He walks over to the library desk and checks out his book. Then he walks back to the table and sits down a seat closer to Hercules. "Hello again," Lafayette says.
"Hi."
"So.. how come you want to talk to me?"
Hercules bit his lip and took a breath. He held out his hand and smiled. "Want to be friends?"
Lafayette returned the smile and shook his hand. "I would love to."
