This is my first Disney AU. I love 101 Dalmatians so much. Great movie. This is just that beginning part of the first movie, where Pongo is scouting for possible mates for his owner, Roger. Only difference is a name change and gender change. So it's Monticello and Thomas (Pongo and Roger) and Nevis and Alexander (Perdy and Anita). It'll make more sense once you start actually reading.
|Monticello|
My story begins in New York, not so very long ago. Yet so much has happened since then, that it seems like an eternity. At that time, I lived with my pet in a bachelor flat, midtown Manhattan. It was a beautiful spring day, a tedious time of the year for bachelors.
The soft sound of Mozart filled the room. I yawned and looked out the window. Oh, who's that there playing the piano? Why that's my pet, Thomas Jefferson, Secretary of State. I'm Monticello, with black spots on a white body.
As far as I could see, the old notion that a bachelor's life was so glamorous and carefree was all nonsense. It was downright dull. It was plain to see that my old pet needed someone. But if it were left up to Thomas, we'd be bachelors forever. He was married to his work, writing up bills to pass and constantly switching from Mozart to Beethoven. Maybe even some Rachmaninov. Songs filled with romance and pure emotion of all things, something he knew nothing about.
Oh he's intelligent enough, as humans go. And I think you could say, Thomas is a rather handsome animal in his way. I could see no reason why my pet didn't deserve an attractive mate. At least I was determined to do my best. But I had a rough idea of what to look for. I knew my pet found no such attraction to the pure beauty of female pets. He preferred ones like himself, pets that were male. I think there was term for it, but I can't quite remember.
I looked out the window at the pets passing with all of there owners. The first one to take my interest was an unusual breed. Very unusual. Not quite for Thomas. Hmm... a bit to short for mine and his tastes. I mean, I know he enjoys the more feminine type males, but those two are two too short.
Well I'll say! That is definitely a fancy breed. I looked over at Thomas in his button up and sigh. Too fancy for him. Much too fancy for me. Too old. Too young. It was a problem, a real problem. I looked at the next breed and shook my tail. Well now, that's more like it! The most beautiful creature on four legs! Now if only the man... well! He's very lovely too. And a perfect suitor for my pet. It was almost too good to be true. I'll never find another pair like that, not if I looked for years.
I scrambled to get to the other window and watched them go. They're heading to the park. A perfect meeting place... if I can only arrange it. Uh oh- but Thomas never stopped work until after five! I looked at the clock and whined. That would be much too late! I got up and growled at the mysterious machine, Thomas too caught up in his music to notice. I simply moved the hour hand to the big five and barked to get his attention.
He stopped his music and looked up at the clock. "Huh. After five already. Would you look at that. Alright Monti, alright boy," he mumbled. He looked at his watch and back at the clock confused, but shrugged. I barked more at him and grabbed his red leash. I scratched at the door as he took ages to put on his red beanie. He chuckled as I attempted to help him put it on and straightened his button up.
I whined at him and he took the leash and attached it to my matching red collar. He opened the door and started to light his cigar, but I huffed and dragged him along. "Woah-!" He stumbled behind me and I quickly ran as fast as I could with him, trying to get to the park. He nearly tripped and fell along the way. Clumsy pet.
I dragged him along through the park in search of that beautiful creature. "Monti, boy, take it easy! What's all the hurry?" I barked and kept going, trying to pick up a scent. I stopped at some nearby barking and looked in curiosity. No, it's just the short breed from before. Thomas went to light his cigar again, but I kept on walking. "Monti boy, slow down!" Thomas chuckled as I weaved my way around the bushes and trees, spotting breeds from before.
