Hercules leaned his back into his husband's chest, sighing in content as Lafayette rubbed his stomach. His due date was approaching and this was one of those days where they could just relax and enjoy their time together. Lafayette subconsciously traced shapes and patterns on Hercules' stomach, paying attention to the movie they were watching rather the man himself.

Since Hercules was on maternity leave, Lafayette had to help out at his husband's tailor company as well as manage his own job while Hercules focused on keeping their child safe and healthy. The two were excited to become parents for the first time, believing the experience is something worth while as their friends described their own experience.

Did they plan this pregnancy? Absolutely not, but they were all for it, even if they wanted to wait a few more years. Of course, having a child took it's toll on their wallets due to medical bills, a safe nursery, baby proofing, and a lot more, but it's a good thing Lafayette comes from a wealthy French family while Hercules' own Irish family was middle class.

Hercules giggles quietly when their unborn child starts kicking and Lafayette looks down at him, smiling softly. Hercules intertwines their fingers and blushes as his husband presses a chaste kiss to his cheek. "The baby is kicking, Laffy," Hercules says. "Mhm," Lafayette nods and rubs his stomach more. Hercules smiles happily, closing his eyes and quickly falling asleep in his husbands arms.

———

"How is he?"

Six days later

"He's doing great. Just a little longer and you'll be a father, Laf."

Lafayette smiles, forgetting that he ran all the way to the hospital. "Thank you Alex, for everything," he says. "Of course. He's my best friend," Alexander replies as Lafayette pulls him into a hug. Alexander hugs back before pulling away and quickly running back into the hospital room. Lafayette stands outside the door and waits.

And waits.

And waits...

Until finally, after nearly an hour, the door opens again. There's a nurse holding the door and she asks him, "Are you his husband?" Lafayette's mouth goes dry and he quickly nods. She gestures for him to come in and he doesn't waste a second to rush in by his husband's side. He walks over to the hospital cot and Hercules slowly opens his eyes, smiling at him.

Lafayette smiles back, ignoring the sound of the door shutting, meaning everyone had left. "Hi..." Lafayette says softly. "Hi..." Hercules whispers back. Lafayette glances at the carefully swaddled child in his arms. His smile melts into a look of complete and total awe. "Can I..?" he trails off. Hercules nods and slowly passes the child to him and watching as Lafayette carefully held her.

"Ma cherie... my darling..." Lafayette trails off and smiles wider as his daughter sniffled a bit and nuzzled into her swaddle blanket. Lafayette wiggles his finger in front of her and she blindly grips onto it softly. He chuckles, tears welling in his eyes. She yawns a bit and opens her eyes, slowly looking up at him. He smiles at her and attempts to wipe his tears away.

After a few moments, Hercules shifts on the hospital bed, capturing the attention of his husband. Lafayette understood and slowly gave their daughter back to him. The sudden change made her cry out for a few seconds, before recognizing Hercules and going quiet. Hercules lightly booped her nose, loving how precious she was. How precious their daughter was.

———

Three days later...

"Careful..."

"Laf, the doctor said that I'm all healed up, okay? Calm down and help me take her to her crib."

Lafayette nods and trails after his husband, making sure there were no obstacles in his way as he walked to their daughter's nursery. They walk into the mostly-yellow room and smile at each other. They didn't find out the gender until she was born so they went with neutral colors. Hercules walks over to her crib and slowly places her down.

She sniffles a bit, but stays asleep and they both sigh a breath of relief. "I think we're good for now," Hercules whispers to Lafayette as he rubs her back to keep her asleep. Lafayette nods and steps out of the room, waiting for Hercules to join him. When he does, he shuts the door and they walk in silence to their room. They leave the door cracked so they can hear if she wakes up.

Hercules flops onto their bed and happily sighs. "Oh I missed our bed so much," he says into a pillow. Lafayette chuckles and dims the lights, laying down next to him. "Know what I missed?" Lafayette asks. Hercules turns towards him and smirks. "I think I know very well what you missed, monsieur," he says. Lafayette grins and kisses him, pulling him slightly closer.

Hercules kisses back and wraps his arms around Lafayette's neck. He rolls them over so he's on top and Lafayette reaches up to place soft and quick kisses down his neck. Hercules sighs in content and bites his lip. The couple's movements come to a halt when they hear the faint sound of crying from down the hall. Lafayette sighs and Hercules looks down at him.

"Duty calls," he shrugs and climbs off of his husband. He slips out of the room and makes a beeline to their daughter's room, Lafayette close behind. "It'll only take a minute, promise," Hercules whispers, walking into the room. Lafayette stands in the doorway and watches Hercules pick up their daughter, shushing her quietly and rubbing her back. She almost immediately quiets down and Hercules turns to his husband.

"See? Nothing to it."

———

Three and a half hours later...

"Why won't she stop crying?!"

"It's already four in the morning. These baby books are NO HELP!"

Hercules frantically rocks their crying daughter while Lafayette flips through several books for the twelfth time. Their daughter kept crying no matter what they did. They fed her, changed her diaper, sang to her, read her a story, rubbed her back, swaddled her, rocked her, gave her toys, but no matter what they did, she still kept crying. Hercules was on the verge of tears from the stress himself.

"Fuck... this is harder than I thought..."

"No, really?"

"Don't get sarcastic with me. We both have to deal with this."

Hercules doesn't respond and continues rocking her. Their daughter continued crying louder and they groaned in response. Lafayette sits the book down and slid onto the floor next to his husband. "Look, I'm sorry, okay? Baby, there is no doubt that we can do this. It's you and me," he says. Hercules smiles a bit and looks at him. Lafayette slides his arm around his waist and pulls him close into his side, looking down at their daughter.

She sniffled and cried and continued struggling in Hercules' arms. "I love you," Lafayette whispers to Hercules. His husband couldn't stop the contagious smile that formed on his face after he whispered the words back. "I love you too." Lafayette kisses his cheek and he giggles. Their daughter starts quieting down a bit. Hercules' eyes widen and he kisses her head. Their daughter giggles and blindly grabs at the air.

The two exchange a look before showering her face in quick, small kisses, her giggling each time in response. She's stopped crying and giggles more before yawing and nuzzling into Hercules' chest. Hercules slowly stands up with Lafayette's help and they carefully place her on her stomach, back in the crib. Lafayette turns on the little mobile and nightlight and they watch silently as she falls back asleep. After a moment or two, Lafayette pulls Hercules close and kisses his forehead.

"We can do this," he mumbles to him. Hercules nods in response and holds his hand, listening to the quiet music from the mobile. It may not be easy, but together they can do it. They're a team.
