"Hmm?"

When I was looking up on the internet for some kitchen appliances, my phone buzzed notifying me that I had received a mail.

I opened the mailbox and noticed that the sender was Chabashira Sae. I immediately realized what the content of the message would be but decided to check it once.

I tapped at the mail and the contents of the message were displayed on my phone.

The message read as follows:

This is to notify you that you have been selected as the leader for Class D for Ridiculous Riddle. Your name as the leader would be submitted to the Student Council tomorrow morning.

The role of the leader is to submit the answers regarding the class code by the deadline. And only the leader would be eligible to give the answers.

Many things about the leader's roles have been kept under the shadow.

Only the leader would have the privilege to know the full extent of the rules and conditions concerning the leader.

The leader would get a Protection Point but the leader is also liable to get expelled if your identity is exposed.

And the class code for the respective class would be given to the Class Leader only.

The code for Class D is 40111.

I see. That's how it is.

But how the hell did I get selected as the leader? I was sure that either Horikita or Yousuke would be selected as the leader but the thought of me being the leader didn't even cross my mind.

And I don't think Chabashira would do something like making me the leader deliberately so that I would do something about it. She knew well what would be the consequences if I found out that it was all schemed by her to make me a leader. So, it was probably legitimate.

I was slightly irritated as well but I think I could use it to my benefit.

Immediately after thinking, I replied back to Chabashira-sensei.

[ I have a request for you.]

[Let me hear it first.]

At least she was willing to listen to what I had to say.

[Please mail Horikita that she had been elected as the leader. You wouldn't tell her that I am the actual leader and let her work on the premise that she is the leader. And let me tell you beforehand, but this is all for the sake of our class. And please also when you submit the class leader's name to the student council submit her name instead of mine.]

She didn't reply immediately. She must be deliberating over what she should do.

The drink was almost ready. I poured it into a cup.

With a cup in one hand and my phone in the other, I went to my bedroom.

I put my phone beside me and turned on the T.V.

I was watching a documentary when my phone vibrated again.

[Why do you want me to do that?]

I just closed my phone and resumed watching the T.V.

I have no intention of explaining any further than this. She should have understood that she won't be getting any answers from me. And I knew full well that she would do what I had told her without any further probing.

Although she might be a bit suspicious of me, she would do what I had asked no questions asked. She knows that I am not someone who does things without any major objective.

So, all I have to do is wait and see how it plays.

October 20

When I woke up in the morning, I found that someone had messaged me.

The sender was unknown but I recognized who it was.

She had asked me to meet her in Keyaki mall at 7 am.

I still had an hour left till the clock hit 7. So, I hurriedly had my breakfast and headed towards Keyaki mall.

There weren't many people so early in the morning but few students could be seen here and there.

I went to a random gift shop and pretended as if I had come to get something.

"Good morning."

From the other side of the shelf, I was currently at, a delicate feminine voice greeted me.

"What is it that you want to talk with me?"

I picked up a small white pendant and checked it.

On the other side, she was doing the same.

"Nagumo is looking to get Horikita-san expelled."

I was right to make Chabashira send her name as the leader to the student council. I knew that Nagumo wanted to defeat me but first, he wanted to do away with my pieces to declare that he had started his attack. And the first one would be Horikita without a doubt. So, if my name was submitted as the leader he would have probably changed his course of actions which I wanted to prevent. I made the right call.

"To make that happen, he is planning to get help from another student from the second years, and from what I have heard Nagumo is fairly confident that, that student would be able to do her job. But I don't know who that student is. That is all that I had to say."

I didn't need to know because I had a good idea as to who that student might be. Nagumo must know that she wanted to expel Horikita and wouldn't miss such an opportunity.

"Tonokawa-senpai, you could have messaged me instead of making us come here. It is risky that someone might spot us."

"I wanted to confirm that you would help me out with this, with my own eyes. I wouldn't be able to do so if you simply refused to reply."

So she wanted to confirm in person that I would aid her.

"But why are you so obsessed with defeating Nagumo?"

Since the end of the desert island test, she had tried to be in touch with me and she had also helped me gather intel on the student council activities. But I couldn't understand why she had that much hatred towards Nagumo. 

"He expelled someone who was important to me from this school. And that is why I want my revenge."

Tonokawa-senpai grabbed something and headed towards the counter.

Unlike in the case of Kiriyama, she wasn't lying. She was deadset on seeing Nagumo being crushed.

Actually, I didn't want to do anything with Nagumo but he was coming after me. So, it was inevitable that I had to square off against him. So, in that case, one could say that our goals aligned.

But I still wanted to know why did she choose me for aid? Is it because she knew that Nagumo was going after me? Did she saw the potential in me? She wasn't that much smart to come to that conclusion just by observing me. She must know something or must have seen something about me. That is why she came to me for my aid.

I don't know the exact reason why. But it's not like I had the need to know that.

I grabbed the pendant that I had been checking earlier and went to the counter.
