After Mashima-sensei left the classroom Sakayanagi Arisu, lightly tapping her cane, moved to the front of the classroom.
As if it was the most natural thing in the world, Kamuro also got up from her seat and sided beside Sakayangi.
She watched over the rest of the classroom.
There were about two or three students who were still not satisfied with Sakayangi being the leader. They were the ones who supported Katsuragi. But after Katsuragi betrayed them and moved to Class B, they were in no position to speak against her.
"Everyone must have heard the explanation that Mashima-sensei gave us right now, yes?"
With her pride and feeling of superiority leaking with every word she spoke, she started speaking.
The students neither spoke nor nodded their heads in affirmation and just kept looking at her.
That was how the class was. No one spoke or did anything when she spoke. It was almost an iron-clad rule.
"Let me all tell you here and now. Please refrain from doing anything in this exam."
The class was still. Although they wanted to ask why they didn't. Because it was a rule that nobody will speak until Sakayanagi finishes.
"In this test, I know that you all are quite enticed and eager because of the huge amount of private points that you will get as a reward for figuring out the leader of the other classes. And not to mention that would also help us in figuring out what the class code for the other classes would be. But let me tell you beforehand, that you are not to get involved in this, no matter what."
That wasn't a request, it was an order. An absolute order.
"But why?"
Someone raised their hand and spoke.
"Why, you ask, Yanagi-kun? It is simply because I don't want you to."
Sakayanagi spoke with sarcasm, no that was no mere sarcasm. That was downright belittling.
The one who had spoken was Yanagi Daisuke. He was said to be one of the members of the Katsuragi faction. Yes, he was said to be and none knew what his actual feelings were but he didn't feel necessary to correct others.
He had a slim body with an average physique. He had black hair and was pretty average regarding looks as well. He was a normal man, who wanted to live a normal life and have a girlfriend as well. And getting a girlfriend was one of his main aim in life.
Although he was said to be a member of the Katsuragi faction, other students knew that he hadn't asked this question just to go against Sakayanagi. He genuinely wanted to know the reason behind her words but as expected he got no answer. But he still wasn't about to give up.
"From this exam, we can get class points as well. If we manage to figure out the class codes for all the classes then we will be able to get a total of 150 Class Points. That would be a huge number of class points that will widen the gap between Class A and the rest of the class. So, no matter how you look at it, what you have said just now means almost as of we shouldn't participate in this exam at all. Wouldn't that be disadvantageous for the class?"
Although they were in Class A, they always had a risk of getting overtaken by other classes. So, widening the gap between them and the other classes as much as possible was what they should be doing.
Of course, Sakayanagi understood as well.
"Fufu. Your concern for the class is genuine and what you have said should be what we should be doing, that is if the conditions were favorable?"
"Conditions were favorable? What do you mean by that?"
Yanagi asked as he had no idea what she was talking about.
"There are many things that are still kept hidden in this exam. There are many rules and conditions that you all are not aware of and that is because the one who set up this exam deliberately didn't want you to know them. I will just tell you one thing. If you don't keep your hands out of it, you will bear huge consequences."
All of what she had said went over their heads.
"What huge consequences?"
Yanagi again asked.
"I can't tell you. No, actually, I don't want to tell you. Do you have any problems with that, Yanagi-kun?"
Her voice was sweet and yet imposing at the same time.
Yanagi was now sure that no matter how much he wanted to, he wouldn't be getting any answers from Sakayanagi.
After Yanagi sat down in his seat, Sakayanagi again spoke.
"Let me tell you all. What I am doing is for the benefit of the class."
They didn't need to be told.
Sakayanagi was unfair and tyrannical. She treated her classmates like they were her pawns. But even after being subjected to such treatment, as dissatisfied as they may have been, they didn't revolt against her.
The answer was simple. They trusted Sakayanagi. They trusted in her superhuman skills. They all knew just how amazing she was. And she had also shown results. So, they all knew that Sakayanagi will never do something that would put her class behind. Her pride simply wouldn't.
Sakayangi also felt the same way. She wanted to prove that she was the best, a natural-born genius. That was why she won't let her class sink.
And there was another thing that strengthed her emotion of wanting to maintain her superiority as the student of Class A.
It was because of what her beloved rival, Ayanokoji Kiyotaka had said.
She knew that it was nothing more than a mere provocation but she wanted to prove it nonetheless. Because it was something that the only man she had ever desired in her life had said to her.
She still remembered how he had said that she was placed in Class A only because her father was the Chairman. She wanted to prove to him that those provocative words will end up backfiring.
She knew that backfiring wasn't the case at all when it came to him. He had no drive in reaching Class A. He just merely wanted to spend his days in peace. What he wanted was a normal school life. But she wanted to do it nonetheless.
That was all she had to say.
She was thinking about returning to her seat when Kamuro called out to her.
"You are thinking about something, aren't you?"
"Fufu."
She had to be impressed.
She was actually thinking about something which she believed she hadn't shown on her face. But Kamuro had managed to sense that. Perhaps, it was because she had spent a lot of time with her, she was able to guess such things.
"As a reward for guessing correctly, I will give you some work."
Kamuro almost was cursing her past self for speaking. Because of that, she had to now do something troublesome again. No, it was sure that she would have told her to do that even if she had kept quiet.
Reluctant as she may have been, she lowered her ear, enough for Sakayanagi to whisper.
"Keep an eye on Yanagi-kun. And make sure to report me if anyone from Class D tries to make contact with him."
Kamuro had many questions she wanted to ask her. First, why keep an eye on Yanagi, and what exactly did she mean by someone from Class D makes contact with him?
But she also knew that asking her would be pointless. She knew her all too well and also knew that she won't be giving any more details than that.
Without paying heed to the internal stifling of Kamuoro, she elegantly made her way to her seat.
