"Lieutenant Colonel Washington, you wanted to see me, sir?" Thirteen Colonies asked as he stepped inside the small building at Fort Necessity, shaking his head lightly to dislodge raindrops.

'If he tries to send us home, we should start a mutiny.'

'Or we leave in peace because we won't need to make things more difficult.'

"Yes, Thirteen Colonies, I did. I wanted to know why you are here." Lt. Colonel Washington asked. Thirteen Colonies straightened his back at the question.

'We're here because we thought it would be a nice trip. What do you think we are here for?'

"Well, sir, I prefer not to leave my people to fight my battles for me. If my people are going to fight, then I will fight with them, sir." Thirteen Colonies responded. Everyone always seemed surprised when he chose to help his people. But his people never abandoned him, even when things seemed dire, and he would do the same.

'Besides, it's our job.'

'And despite what Britain thinks, we are more than capable of caring for ourselves.'

"That's a noble cause, Thirteen Colonies, but are you sure you can handle being in a fight?" Lt. Colonel Washington asked.

'Why do you think we can't? Is it because Britain always says we can't?'

Thirteen Colonies felt his anger rising at the question and took a deep breath to calm himself before responding. Why did people always assume he couldn't fight or protect himself? Maybe he was just a colony, but that didn't equate to helplessness. His Father would not stand for a useless colony unable to fend for itself.

"With all due respect, Lieutenant Colonel, but I fought in King Philip's War and have been involved with other skirmishes with the native people. I am 147. I can handle a weapon." The colony answered. Lt. Colonel Washington nodded. Thirteen Colonies knew he was lying about his age, but as far as anyone needed to be concerned, Roanoke had died. Thirteen Colonies had tried to bring it up before and–

Well, it was better for the past to stay in the past.

"I didn't want to doubt your abilities, but I want you to understand what you're getting into. A fight with the French and their Indian allies is a battle on a much larger scale than colonists against Indians. As long as you try to avoid getting hurt, you will be allowed to fight." Lt. Colonel Washington ordered.

'Because if we get hurt, Britain will become more overprotective than he already is.'

Thirteen Colonies was shocked. Most people he tried to fight for turned him away because they thought he couldn't fight because he was a colony or Father told them not to.

"Th-Thank you for the opportunity, sir," Thirteen Colonies responded, stuttering slightly. He saluted Lt. Colonel Washington and turned to leave.

"Good luck, Thirteen Colonies." Lt. Colonel Washington said as Thirteen Colonies opened the door.

"Please call me Thirteen, sir," The colony responded before opening the door and returning to the heavy rainfall.

'I hate rain.'

This is going to make defense of the fort difficult. Thirteen thought as he watched mud puddles slowly form and the trenches by the entrance of the fort flood with water.

'That's not good.'

'This rain is going to make everything much harder.'

Thirteen watched the men cutting down trees and using them to create makeshift breastwork.
