Steve packed the trunk of their small convertible with everything they needed - their weapons, new clothes his infamous shield. Steve climbed back into the drivers seat and began driving back toward the freeway. "We're going to need somewhere to lay low for the night." Steve spoke, glancing to Sam.
Sam turned his head to Steve, "Lay low? What do mean lay low?"
Steve sighed, diverting the car back on to the busy freeway. "It's going to take a few hours before reinforcements come in," Steve glanced back to Katherine in the back seat, "Give us a few hours to rest up. We don't know what's ahead of us."
Sam sighed in defeat, "Aight. Where do you suggest?"
Steve drove the car nearly as far as it could travel. The conversation in the car was minimal. Katherine rested her head on Bucky's shoulder, tiredness consuming her. The sun began to set, dusk overtaking the sky leaving it a deep orange. Steve found a dreary motel not far from the freeway.
The Falls Motel - quiet, run-down, not something interesting to look at. The building stretched in a U shape, a parking lot resting in the center, only several cars occupying spaces. Steve parked in the back corner, looking to Sam. Sam turned to Steve, "Why it gotta be me?" Steve didn't need to say anything, "Fine." Sam spoke, climbing from the car.
Steve took his time climbing from the car, watching Sam trek across the dimly lit parking lot toward the reception of the motel. Steve glanced into the back of the car watching as Bucky gently woke Katherine up. He gently placed his hand on her cheek, rubbing his thumb along her cheekbone, whispering to her. Katherine fluttered her eyes open, lifting her head and looking to Bucky and nodding. Bucky climbed from the car, glancing over to Sam who had entered the reception to be greeted by the middle-aged woman behind the desk.
Katherine climbed from the car, smiling to Steve as she did so, standing beside him. Sam soon left the reception, walking back toward the car. Sam sighed approaching the group, "I could only get two rooms with the cash in my wallet." Sam held up two room keys.
Steve nodded his head, "Well, we'll take one." He said to Sam, looking to Katherine, "And you two -"
Katherine nodded as Bucky took the key from Sam. "It's 207 and 201." Sam spoke, "We're over there." Sam pointed in the direction of room 201 on the second floor of the motel, "207 is up here." Sam pointed nearly above their heads in the direction of room 207.
Bucky sighed, "Yeah, I got it." Bucky looked to Katherine who smiled and followed him. They climbed the metal winding stairs to the balcony where their room was.
Sam looked to Steve, "Let's go."
Steve watched as Katherine entered her room with Bucky. He sighed, following Sam across the parking lot to their room.
Bucky opened the door, swinging it open. He reached in and switched on the light revealing a very ugly and basic motel room. A double bed rested in the center of the room with a small circular table and two chairs in the corner of the room. A door leading to the bathroom lay on the wall opposite to the front door. "It's very -" Katherine began, stepping into the room after Bucky, "- quaint."
Bucky threw the key on the table. He turned to Katherine, closing the door behind her, "How are you feeling?"
Katherine looked to him with a faint smile, "I'm feeling okay."
Bucky reached out with his metal hand, cupping her face. "You would tell me if you weren't okay."
Katherine smiled and nodded, "Of course." Katherine went on her toes slightly, placing a gentle kiss on Bucky's lips. The kiss lingered on both of their lips - the taste of wanting more. It felt like a lifetime since they could be alone together.
