Katherine and Steve never spoke about that day again. Katherine got patched up at the hospital, and they drove home, getting their car fixed several days later. Katherine opted to wear leather gloves all of the time, believing leaving her hands exposed led to her episode - a source of power.
Steve helped Katherine clear out the empty wine, vodka and whiskey bottles from her room and they began sleeping in the same bed once again. There was tension between them, but they both put it aside. Steve knew he messed up while trying to talk to Katherine in the car on that day - disregarding her past. He understood her more, understood her troubles. Steve had to agree with her - there are cruel people in this world and fearing for your children in such a volatile world is heartbreaking, but it was still his wish to have a family.
Katherine stood in the bedroom. She sat at the vanity table, gently swiping her blush along her cheeks. Steve entered from the bathroom, his hair wet from his morning shower. He glanced to her, she didn't take notice. Katherine grabbed a band and pulled her hair back, tying it in a loose bun. Katherine found it hard to do particular tasks while wearing her new permanent leather gloves, but she got on with it.
Steve rubbed his towel along his head, drying his hair. He threw the towel in the wash basket and grabbed a shirt from his dresser. He buttoned up his shirt, tucking it into his pants. Steve tweaked his head slightly, the silence almost eating away at him. "Kat." He spoke softly, getting Katherine's attention. Katherine didn't say anything but just looked to Steve through the mirror in front of her. Steve noticed her lack of enthusiasm, "Can we please just talk this out?"
Katherine looked away from Steve, gazing at the table in front of her for a moment. She questioned whether she wanted to talk about it, sweep it under the rug or just pretend that nothing happened. She inhaled and turned to look to Steve, "What do you want to talk about?" She gripped the back of the chair, keeping herself turned.
Steve exhaled, "You know what we need to talk about." He looked between the floor and then to Katherine. "The day in the car -"
"- What is there to talk about?" Katherine cut him off.
"Kat." Steve said more sternly, prompting Katherine to tune in to what Steve was saying. Steve walked around the bed, sitting on the edge. He faced Katherine, "I'm sorry for not taking your past into consideration. I sometimes forget you had a whole other life before I met you." Katherine nodded her head along with what Steve was saying, "But if not wanting children is what you want -" He paused for a moment, " - I don't want to lose you."
Katherine slowly got to her feet, "You're not going to lose me." She spoke softly. Steve looked up to her, watching her walk toward him. "But Steve," She sighed, "I can't ask you to stay if it means you can't have what you want."
Steve looked up to her, everything about her made him love her more. He couldn't live without her. Steve reached out and gently took her hand, "I want you."
Katherine felt her cheeks warm. Steve gently pulled her closer to him. Katherine smiled to herself. She sat on Steve's lap, her knees either side of his waist. Katherine placed her hands on his cheeks, "Say it to me again if you mean it." She whispered to him.
Steve smiled to her, "I want you."
Katherine pressed her lips on Steves - a touch neither had expected to send butterflies throughout them. It had been a long time since they kissed, something about her touch on his lips ignited an unruly passion within him. Steve wrapped his arm around Katherine's lower back, pulling her closer to him. Steve moved his lips to the crook of her neck, placing gentle kisses along her skin, nibbling slightly. A soft moan escaped Katherine's lips, Steve hitting the spot she likes. Katherine reached down and pulled Steve's shirt open revealing his bare chest.
