Marshall POV
I sat in my office staring at the picture confused, trying to dig up the memory.
I hadn't noticed it until Leila had pointed it out.
What was her brother's connection to me?
Do I ask Trick?
I look up shoving the photo away as I hear a knock on my office door
"Come in"
The door swings open and Alec walks in, closing the door and taking a seat.
"Yo" I said as he nodded at me "Thanks for coming in, I figure since it's your beats you should be the one to work on it with me"
"Nah I appreciate it heaps, you know how many doors this credit is going to open for me, is love to produce fulltime"
I nod and then pause, if I didn't ask now I would most probably obsess over it.
"Can I ask you something?"
"Sure"
"It's about your cousin Tommy" I say pulling out the picture and sliding it across to him "Leila was over and pointed this one out, I don't recall it though"
"Leila was over yours?"
"Yeah she kinda just turned up"
"Y'all gotta stop just showing up at each other's houses" He said with a chuckle "Starting to think you like each other"
I roll my eyes as he laughs harder.
He suddenly gets serious "Yeah you've met Tommy multiple times... And myself"
"I have? For what? Like fan meets or something?"
"No" Alec said with an awkward glance and cleared his throat "Tommy use to be one of your trusted dealers, and that's why Leila doesn't know because he wanted to protect her from how badly into it her idol was, he wanted her to have some faith on the people she looked up too"
"So what happened to Tommy?"
"Drug deal gone bad, he was set up, they were waiting for him, they shot him and took the drugs and money, it was only a few blocks away but it was too late"
"I'm sorry about that man, it sucks to be in that position and losing someone close to you like that"
He nods "It was important to Tommy that Leila was kept in the dark, I mean she found out about the dealing eventually but she never knew the rest"
"You're one hell of an actor, pretending you don't know me"
Alec gave me a small smile while shrugging "That's because I don't know you, the Marshall I had met back then was looking death in the face, laughing with no sense of remorse or consequence, you're not the same person now"
"And Trick's reason to lie to my face and keep the fact that you actually know me a secret?"
"Tricks always been about protecting Leila, he kinda stepped up as her unofficial father figure, especially since Tommy died, he blames himself for his death, but none of this is personal Marshall, all of this is to protect Leila" Alec said leaning forward "Also I think he thought you'd feel more comfortable not knowing that we use to sell you drugs"
"This is wild" I said shaking my head "Were you around when I, you know, almost died?"
He should his head "I stopped selling after Tommy's death, I kinda moved on to another part of the business, Trick made sure that I still had an income coming in so Leila and I could still live and shit"
"Still wild, I'm sorry if I was ever out of pocket back then"
"Nah man you weren't, well not to me anyway" Alec said, adjusting himself on his seat, becoming serious again "Hey Marshall, Can you do me a favour?"
"Sure"
"Whatever it is that you and Leila are doing, can you keep her feelings in mind? Like with what you want with her and be clear? I've had to clean up her when her life was chaotic once, I don't want her to have to do through another heartbreak"
"I understand, however you don't gotta worry because she shuts me down at every corner" I sat in disbelief with a chuckle.
"She's always been a tough nut to crack, I'm pretty sure Tommy and I were the only two that could ever decode her crazy ass head"
"I don't believe it every time you mention she was a fan, I feel like I'm her least favourite person in the world"
Alec looked humoured for a moment "Believe me when I say she was quite the fan, she plays it down but she would be the first to line up all night to buy tickets when we were young, not to mention her walls were covered, but at the same time she wasn't a cringy type of fan, she was a real fan, I'm not sure why she fell off, I'm still figuring that out myself, because as you know she still goes to every concert with me"
"But that's for Tommy's sake ain't it?"
"I sometimes think that but then I catch her zoning out to your music, I don't know if it's because she's remembering something or if she's just vibing" He says shrugging nonchalantly "Maybe it's a conversation you both need have"
"I've tried"
"Well, sometimes you've gotta Jimmy the look a few times before it loosens" He said with a raised eyebrow before standing "Anyways I'm gonna go cue up my shit, I see you in there"
I nod as he walks out of my office leaning me to my own overactive thoughts.
I have to have met her somewhere, it was the only reason as to why she disliked me.
Maybe I said something inappropriate, after all I was known for that back in my younger years.
The cat and mouse game was getting long, I had to figure out my own way to crack her code, she was close I was sure of it before she has left mine the other night, things kinda lingered between us.
But Alec had a point.
I needed to figure out my intentions, because if I was being honest I wasn't sure of them myself.
All I know is that I loved the way my body reacted when she was around.
I felt more alive then I have ever been.
The atmosphere in the room where on actually changes and it felt electrical almost.
It was like the chaotic energy we both put out was building, but for what?
And would I somehow get bored of I ever dos get to be with her?
Was the intensity on my body just pure lust or was it sensing something more?
And most importantly.
Was I ready for what was to come?
"That's a dangerous thing you're doing Marshall Mathers"
I look up to see Stella standing in my doorway with a small smile.
"Hey Stella, how you doing?"
"I didn't are you in the kitchen so I bought you your lunch, you looked pretty deep in thought"
"Yeah just internally arguing with myself, nothing unusual"
Stella laughed and placed my lunch in front of me "Is it because of a pretty passive-aggressive brunette?"
I looked at her for a moment, as guilt struck me.
"Its okay Marshall, I wasn't born yesterday, and I'm a big girl" She said with a giggle.
I nod "Yeah there is a lot of information coming up about my past that arena to have us linked and I'm just trying to figure it out and what my next move is"
"Well my advice is to just go for it, whatever you feel, in the end we only regret the chances we didn't take, you do all people understand this" She said with a shrug before leaving "Good luck"
"Thanks" I said as I waved as she left, then going back into my thoughts again, stating at the document confront of me, words our of focus.
I needed to find out the truth.
