This was no longer a duo, it's a squad. Lucas is still walking with Ness and the other two are walking behind them. Ness is still cautious, while Lucas, is somehow 100% convinced that the three people he met in three days are decent human beings.
"Alright, we goin find a shelter for you two, and then you both can fuck off." Ness said.
"Shelter? Good luck, haven't seen actual humans in weeks, you guys were the first." Villager said, while holding his arms behind his back.
"So what's your point?" Ness asked. "Why aren't you two putting on your gas masks to try to scare us, or try to blend in with the rest of the things that no one gives a shit about."
"Alright alright can we not argue anymore, let's forgive their past mistakes and move on." Lucas said. "Don't have to be so pushy on them, I'm sure they had a rough past too."
"Pushy? They look like two spoiled brats having a playdate in their fortress. They were having bacons and eggs while we savored out 3 month old corn bread. Lucas, I know you are not stupid, but any logical person could tell by now, that they are shit human beings."
"Geez, come down, Bacon and eggs are rare delicacies for anyone, including us, we have been eating the same plate for a week." Link said. "What did your friend do to make you want to shag him so much?"
"Oh funny that you said that, he didn't try to stab me during my sleep."
"Can we move on now?" Lucas said while putting his hands in his pockets.
For the next half hour, no one spoke a single word, no one wanted to anyway. As Lucas walked onto the steep dirt hills, he noticed a sign, a sign that was too rusted for the eyes. Unable to understand, he ignored and walked on.
As the crew walked forward more, they noticed something in the distance.
Outlines of buildings, many of them.
"Hey! What's that! that's a town, a town!" Villa screamed in excitement as he ran forward to scout. "We didn't even walk that far, what a shame."
"It's a town? This close, this isn't a trap again right?" Lucas said.
"One way to find out." Ness said, "We need to get rid of these people as soon as possible."
As they walked even closer, they noticed that it was in fact a town, abandoned, everything looks rundown. Houses to houses, all as hollow looking as a building can be.
"This place looks familiar, perhaps I've been here?" Ness said to Lucas.
"Everything looks similar these days." Lucas said.
"Hey guys, Hey!!" Link yelled, "Check this out, there's a sign here."
At first, Ness was not remotely motivated to answer the hooded boy's call, but he had to, after Lucas sprinted towards the two other boys.
"On-ett? Or is it pronounced Onett? Or Onett? That's a pretty weird name for a city" Villager said.
Onett? Lucas thought, he has heard the name before, he just doesn't know where.
"Ness, come here! Do you know where Onett is?" Lucas asked while the other two boys looked at Ness' general direction.
"Yeah, that's my hometown, what about i-Oh My God, Onett? Wha, How?"
"Oh, that most feel terrible, at least your city still exists, mine was razed." Villager said. "Hey where are you going, ain't we sticking as a group?"
Ness darted away, as the three other boys followed him, he is acting so weird lately, what is going on with him?
"Hey Ness, slow down, you are going too fast." Lucas yelled at Ness. "Ness!"
Ness had no sign of stopping, it was, until he arrived at small hut on top of a dirt hill, where he knelt down and shoved his face into the ground.
The three other boys soon arrived beside him, all panting and whimpering, while Ness knelt onto the ground, in front an empty tunnel. He froze. The three boys watched in confusion, as slow drops of water dripped onto the dirt ground.
Tears, from Ness, as he watched an empty hole with nothing in it, Lucas didn't know what was more confusing, the giant hole or the fact that Ness was crying. Ness, the badass dickhead he was during the entirety of the trip, was crying?
"The-y...are...gone..."
"The-y...are...gone..."
"The-y...are...gone..."
Ness tearing quickly turned into sobbing, his cries are now audible, and he wasn't even trying to hide it.
And suddenly, he cried out.
A sad and painful cry.
...
Lucas felt sympathy for Ness, even though Ness was an absolute dick to Villa and Link, they still felt sorry for him.
"Ness? What's wrong?" Lucas asked down bending down.
Ness didn't answer at first, but he did after taking back his tears. "My fa-mily, they were supposed to b-e here...They were supposed to stay here after I left. The bunker was supposed to be unbreakable..."
"Pigmasks...It must be." Said Link, "Sorry..."
...
This went on for another while, Lucas stared at the clouds far beyond, he thought of his family. Where has the Oasis gone to, maybe they are already safe, safe from everything, he missed his brother, he missed his father, and he missed his mother... This also reminded him that more than half of the day has gone by.
This sudden change of attitude shocked Lucas, he didn't talk much today, there was no such point.
Hours went by, the day was getting dark, the three boys desperately tried to start a fire, which they did with immense difficulty. Ness is still , kneeling. Lucas didn't want to disturb Ness, again, so he left him alone. The other two boys however, were eager to talk to Ness.
"It's all my fault, if I never left the bunker, this would have never happened..." Ness said, still talking to himself.
...
"Dude, let me tell you something...I know you hate us, but allow me." Link said.
"Please go away..." Ness said, voice filled with sorrow.
"We've been through the same thing, a while ago that is, a long while ago." Link continued. "I was eight when I lost everything."
"...Ei-ght?" Ness asked, turning his head. "How old are you now?"
"Around yours...We might not be the best of friends, but here's somewhat of a secret that me and villa both have."
"What...?"
"Here, A story, maybe this will make you feel a bit better..."
"This was long before the red skies..."
