Sloane
When Ryan suggested a girls day, I had no desire to run around the mall with her, Taylor or Sam to get prom dresses. Well, a tux in his case. I was mad enough that the doctor told me to take it easy and shopping seemed to be the most stressful way to spend the day.
The two girls had begged me, saying that it was a way to do something for ourselves. Don't get me wrong, I was happy that Ryan was excited to go shopping. I mean, she used to love it back when it was a simpler time, but I in no way ever loved it.
I opted to spend a care free day doing something I actually loved. But that of course was nixed when Nancy and my dad showed up at the dance studio.
They warned me about my doctor's advice. Two days ago, I told my parents about my "condition" as my dad called it. I love him. I do, but he couldn't even bring himself to say it. Since then they have been treating me like a toddler, watching my every move.
Nancy put me on leave from the diner and inn and forbade me from the farm and now I couldn't even dance. So, I did the next best thing instead of staying home.
"Hey, Uncle Mike." I greeted.
He poked his head up from the hood of his Chevelle.
"Thought you were going shopping for prom dresses." Quade said in a mocking tone from behind me
"Bought it already."
And I had. Last year for Jr. Prom.
"What about you? Weren't you supposed to be at Axel's with Foster, playing mind numbing video games?"
"Is that what they are calling it now?" Mike shook his head.
"Let me guess...they are still using this as an excuse to find "him"." I shook my head.
Ryan had wanted them to take a break. It was wearing everyone thin.
"Yeah."
I didn't miss the shift in both of their eyes when Quade had answered.
"What? You guys know something?"
"No. Just don't want it getting back to Ryan." Mike said.
"Right."
I didn't believe a word of it. But I let it go.
"Tune up?" I asked, positioning myself beside my uncle. "Saul just got a new shipment of oil kits with chrome filters." I told them, referring to Wood Port's mechanic.
Mike's eyes lit up.
"I'll go grab you one. And some better spark plugs and wires than what you have here." I held up the cheap wires that he had resting on a stool beside me.
"You don't have to do that. I can go. Stay here with Quade. Relax." Mike wiped his hands on a rag.
I glanced at Quade who refused to make eye contact. Did he think I was mad at him for telling?
I rolled my eyes and wrapped my arms around my uncle.
"I know you know."
"I do. I'm here for whatever you need, even if it's just to listen to you vent about morning sickness." He patted my back.
"Thanks." I smiled and pulled away. "I accept cash or card." I held out my hand.
"I said I was going."
"I know what you said. Doesn't make it a reality. I'm fine. If I don't help, I'll go crazy. A trip to Saul's isn't going to stress me out. Car part shopping is the only shopping I like...well that and shopping at the pet store."
