I started to second guess my decision to let Foster give me a ride home when I saw his old Food Ranger. It looked like it could fall apart just by going over a speed bump. He may be a good guy, but I doubted that we would make it to my house in one piece.
He opened his door, the hinge protesting loudly. I winced and opened the passenger side door, trying to ignore the metal on metal sound. I told myself that it would be fine at repeated the mantra as I st down and closed the door.
I quickly buckled as he started the ignition and sent up a silent prayer that we wouldn't break down.
Despite how his truck looked, it sounded perfectly fine. I found myself relaxing a bit as he pulled out of the lot.
"So, you wanted to talk to be about Taylor." I prompted.
Foster glanced at me briefly, then rubbed the back of his neck nervously.
"Yeah. Is she seeing someone? I want to ask her out."
"She hasn't said anything about seeing someone. Pretty sure she'd say yes if you asked her out." I told him.
He glanced at me again, then gave me a megawatt smile.
"I've been wanting to for a while. Just never had the nerve." He admitted.
His honesty caught me off guard. I didn't know how to reply to that, so I let the uncomfortable silence linger between us.
I planted my gaze out the window and a men's ad for underwear on a billboard caught my attention. An idea quickly formed and I could almost hear my cousins voice plotting what she would do in this situation.
"We need to make a pit stop. " I broke the silence. "You mind stopping at the drug store?"
"Uh...okay." he raised a quizzical brow.
I didn't elaborate and again silence followed.
Five minutes later, he parked the truck in front of the Wood Port Pharmacy and made a move to get out.
"Just need to grab tampons." I said quickly, hoping it would make him uncomfortable enough to stay in the car.
I didn't want him to know what I was up to. He was friends with Axel, and I didn't want him to rip him off.
"I'll wait here." He said, causing me to release the breath I was holding.
I nodded and quickly got out.
As soon as I got inside, I quickly made my way to the right aisle and grabbed several tubes of oral numbing gel.

Foster turned into my street and my stomach started turning. The last thing I needed was for my mother to see me get out of his truck.
"Pull over here." I said quickly when we got a few houses away.
"Why? You embarrassed to be seen with me?" He asked jokingly.
"My dad will give both of us a hard time if he sees me get out of your truck. He'd deem it unsafe. No offense. He just knows cars...and trucks...yours looks to have seen better days. " I shrugged, telling him half of the truth.
Foster gulped and nodded at the mention of the sheriff. He was afraid of him? I shook the thought away, thanked him for the ride as he pulled over and got out.
Luckily, my parents weren't home, so I didn't have to deal with my mother. For now at least.
