Chapter 20

We did it bois. 20 chapters. The big 20. I hate to say it but we're about 3/4 of the way to the end. Thanks for sticking around this long. It means so much.

Anyways, let's get onto the chapter.

Sage's POV

When I come to I'm surrounded by quickly dissipating dust. It's in my eyes and nose and mouth, it cakes me, covering me in a brown outer layer. I cough up a puff of the grains that fill my lungs, trying to fill them back with air. Through the thick air I barely make out Lance helping Kira up and fretting over her. A tiny part of me pings with hurt that he went to her first, but then a larger part reminds me that that's his little sister, and I'm just his...friend.

I'm laying on the ground. When did I get there? I slowly raise my self up with my arms, grunting in the process. All my limbs are sore.

"Sage? Sage? Sage?!" Lance says rather rapidly, his voice feigning panic.

"Here!" I rasp out, having to take a minute to wet my dry mouth enough to speak. An audible sigh of relief is heard from the other side of the cavern.

"V? Ren? You guys there?" Lance calls out. Ren's voice is heard towards the back of the cave. I hear a shuffle to my left and hear a tiny voice in my mind.

I push myself off the floor into a kneel and take a breath, fighting through the pain in my whole body. Remembering something, I frantically look around me and as far as I can through the thick dust, trying to find my precious sword. A few feet away I spot it, caked in dust just like everything else. I grab it and fondly put it in its sheath, relieved it's still in tact.

I move over to where I thought Ren was, grabbing his small form and placing him on my shoulder. I move back to the middle of the vast cave, where I found Lance limping over, leaning heavily on Kira, and V already there.

"Everyones accounted for? Good." I confirm. "Who's hurt?"

"Lance sprained his foot but it should be fine in a few days as long as he doenst put too much weight on it." Kira says. "Other than that I think everyones just sore?" She asks, getting nods from everyone.

"Alright. Kira, stay with Lance and make sure he stays off that foot. Now, what was that explosion?" I look around at the dark cavern, the fire in the middle had been blown out when the dust came rushing in.

"I think those men blew up the entrance to the cave. That would be my best guess at least." V says.

"Those werent just any men. Those are Tempus's knights. I dont know how, but they found us." Ren says solemnly.

"Well what do we do? We're trapped in here right? We're running out of oxygen fast and those guys are waiting for us right outside." Lance pipes up.

"Hm...Kira, is there a back way out through any of these tunnels?" I ask, gesturing to the many paths leading in different directions off of the main area.

"Yes! There is! I found it a few months ago. It's a small exit area but it's very hidden, we should be able to get out and up in the air without them even knowing." She confirms with a nod.
