"so, you needed my help?" kasia said, walking into my room.

"yeah. i'm writing a song."

"i may be in honours english, but i can't write a song, or even a poem to save my life."

"then you don't have to help. i know you can sing. i just need to know what the first verse sounds like so i know which direction to go in," i said.

kasia picked up my notebook, and started singing. that set a lightbulb off in my head.

"keep going into the chorus."

she did as i said. "stop for a sec," i said. "go back to the 'hold my hand' part and go higher."

"i waited for you all my life,
hold my hand and keep me close."

"boom. that was amazing," i said.

"thanks. but can't you sing?" she asked.

"nope."

"come on, i've heard you. you're good."

"nice joke. that was in elementary school."

"then what happened?"

"i don't know! i guess i lost all of that," i said.

"what's this?" she said, picking up the songwriting program package off of my desk.

"that's for the songwriting program. ms. murray gave them to wilder and i."

"you're applying?"

"yeah, both of us are."

"well, good luck."

"thanks."

"so you have to know how to sing to get in?" she asked as she flipped through the package.

"no, because there's vocal listed as one of the courses. it also says in bold that previous singing experience is not required."

"what? where- oh. well i'm stupid," she said. "if you keep refusing the fact that you can sing, and you are going to go into this program, i'm going to teach you how to sing a bit."

"what? kas, i-"

"no exceptions. you are going to be able to sing by june."

"it's february."

"exactly. which is plenty of time for you to learn. and by then, you will be able to sing this amazing song for wilder."

"how'd you know it-"

"lavender, i'm your best friend, so if i didn't pick up on that sooner, there would be a problem. now, let's start the first lesson," she said, standing up and walking over towards my keyboard.

oh boy. the next few months are going to be fun.

it has been a month so far, and it has gone by very quickly.

kasia has been giving me vocal lessons, and i must say, she's an amazing teacher. i've been getting better but i now have mad respect for people who sing a lot. it is so tiring.

i ended up getting a decent grade on my french exam. and i'm now getting an 'a' in chemistry, so it is safe to say school is going well.

production is starting to get a bit stressful though. there has been a new issue everyday. from burnt out lightbulbs, to a staircase prop completely breaking. we've all been running around like chickens with our heads cut off to try and make everything work out.
