"Oh, for God's sake," I cursed. "Do you hear this guy? Wh-what? Is he delusional? He considers Steve his brother because Steve inspired the way he fought in the military? He's never even met Steve. We lived with him! He has absolutely, entirely no right."
I turned back to Bucky as he didn't respond and continued to stare icily at the interview on the TV.
"Tell me I'm not overreacting?" I questioned.
"You're always overreacting about something," he said. "But, no. You're entirely justified in this case."
"Oh, just you wait until I start making calls. I still know quite a few people in the government. That fake will be gone before we know it."
"It won't do anything," Bucky said. "You'll be wasting your breath. They've already shown him to the public. They can't take another Captain America away from them. They'd hate the government. They'd hate you."
"Well, you can't win over everyone."
"Y/N," he said meaningfully, causing me to meet his eyes. "There's nothing we can do."
I took a breath to speak, but stopped short and sighed pitifully. I put my face in my hands, forcing myself not to cry.
      "Steve..." I whimpered.
"I know," Bucky said as he wrapped his arms around me.
"What are we gonna do, Buck?" I whispered.
"I'm gonna go pay Sam a visit," he said. "Wanna come with me?"
I shook my head in his shoulder.
"No," I said slowly. "I don't think I'm ready for that. Especially since he gave up the shield."
Bucky nodded, then pulled away. He pressed his lips lightly to mine, before walking away. He picked up his phone and keys before leaving.
"Call me if you need anything," he said at the door.
"The same to you," I said. "I don't have any plans this week, so if you need help, I'll be there."
He smiled and nodded, then pulled the door open to leave.
"And, Buck?" I said, causing him to pause and turn back to me.
      "Yeah?"
"Don't get into any trouble," I said.
He chuckled a little, then winked at me.
"Never," he said, then shut the door behind him.
I settled down into the armchair and crossed my legs beneath me. I watched the TV closely, examining this 'new Captain America,' some military man named John Walker. Poser.

The next day I was making myself a bowl of cereal in Bucky's kitchen when Smoak chimed in on my glasses.
"I'm receiving some interesting communications from the bug we have in Mr. Wilson's suit, sir. Take a look, why don't you?"
I examined some of the data and footage from the drone, then watched as Sam and Bucky began to chase after two semi trucks. Bucky began a sprint after the trucks, easily catching up with them as Sam chased by flight.
"Damn it, Bucky," I cursed. "I said to stay out of trouble. Bring the Vibranium suit down."
      "Right away, sir," Smoak said.
I stepped onto the balcony and a moment later my strongest Renegade suit landed. I stepped inside and blasted off towards Bucky and Sam's location, traveling as fast as possible.

I swooped down from above the clouds, flying above the highway now. The two semi trucks were in view ahead of me. I saw Bucky being held in place by some of the soldiers, while Sam launched himself at the lead woman. I put some extra juice in my thrusters, then swooped around to land on the roof. I aimed a palm at the men holding Bucky and it whined to life.
"I don't know who you guys are, but I suggest you let him go and surrender. I don't like to play nice. I think you guys just got yourself into a fight you can't win. So, what's it gonna be?"
I looked away from them as I heard the propeller of a helicopter and one lowered down just above the highway.
"Patch into Sam and Bucky's comms, Smoak," I said.
      "Yes, sir. Accessing now..."
I watched as a blur of red flew through the air and smashed against the lead woman, who was about to attack Sam. My eyes darted back to the helicopter where the 'new Captain America' was standing, now holding the shield again.
"Looks like my help wasn't needed after all," I said sarcastically. "Should I head back home? Maybe I can catch a movie? It looks like Captain Walker has everything handled here..."
      "You're funny," Sam snarked back.
I watched as Walker dropped out of the helicopter and landed on the roof of one of the trucks.
I sneered a little silently, but my anger only fueled my distraction. Next thing I knew something slammed into my side and I was thrown off the truck into the air. My thrusters immediately powered on and I regained control. I blasted towards the semi trucks again as Walker started to fight them off with Sam. I landed on the roof with Sam, just opposite of Bucky and shot one of the men with palm blasts. Bucky used his freed arm to take down the other man.
I heard John Walker introduce himself to Sam and myself, but I ignored his presence. I flew through the air, firing blasts, as Bucky and the others fought beneath me. I gasped as one of the men threw Bucky off the side of the truck. He just barely caught onto the edge of the other truck, nearly hitting the ground.
      "Bucky!" I shouted.
      "Fine!" he responded.
I lined up my flight path and started to lower myself towards him, between the trucks, but leapt back as one of the drivers started to close the space between them, forcing me out.
I silently cursed. I watched as another soldier held onto the edge of the truck as well and started to kick at Bucky's arm, trying to get him to let go. I directed a palm at him and it whined to life quickly. A blue blast fired at him and he flew off the side of the truck, rolling on the highway and being left behind us in the dust.
Sam swooped around the other side and looked at Bucky underneath the trucks.
"That little girl kicked your ass!" he shouted into comms.
Bucky shouted angrily in response. I gasped as part of the guardrail he was hanging onto started to fall off. I swooped around the other side and looked at Bucky underneath the right truck, while Sam looked at him from underneath the left.
"I got him!" I said into comms.
"You're kinda new here, kid!" Sam replied. "I've got this. Fall back!"
"I don't care if I'm new here!" I snapped back. "I've got him!"
I started to prepare to swoop under to grab him at the same time Sam did.
"I said: Fall back!" Sam snapped.
We both rolled under the trucks to catch him. We both ended up wrapping our arms around Bucky and rolling off to the side.
"Damn it, Sam!" I shouted as we hit the ground and rolled across some field.
I fell onto my back, Sam half on top of me, and Bucky half on Sam. We all groaned a little in pain.
"Could've used that shield," Bucky said facetiously.
"Get off me," Sam retorted rolling Bucky off him and himself off me.
We all laid there a moment to catch our breaths. I let my helmet retract away.
"They were all super-soldiers, guys," Bucky said.
"I know," Sam replied. "You're welcome, by the way."
After a few moments we pushed ourselves to our feet and made our way back to the country side road. We began to walk towards the airstrip.
"Sorry about Redwing," Bucky said to Sam, attempting to make conversation.
"No, you're not," Sam replied. "What's going on that big cyborg brain of yours?"
      "It's computing," Bucky snarked.
      Sam chuckled humorlessly.
"You know what? I can actually see it. I can see the gears turning. Oh, they're malfunctioning. Shutting down. Yep, they're on fire," he said.
"We gotta figure out where the serum's coming from," Bucky said.
"Yeah, and how in the hell after eighty years are there eight super-soldiers runnin' loose?"
"I could start to reach out to-" I started, but stopped as a military vehicle pulled up aside us.
I rolled my eyes as I saw Walker in the back of it.
"So, that didn't go as planned, huh?" he said as the vehicle stopped.
We didn't respond and kept walking right past him. The vehicle started slowly moving with us.
"Look, at least we know what we're up against, huh? And we're pretty sure it's one of the Big Three, so..."
"Aliens, androids, or wizards?" Sam said.
      I furrowed my eyebrows.
      "Pretty sure," Walker said.
"There's no such thing as the Big Three," I said.
"There's no such thing as wizards," Bucky added.
"Then it's aliens or androids," Walker said.
      "Or super-soldiers," Sam said.
"Shit. Super-soldiers, for real?" Walker's side kick said.
      "Yeah," Sam said.
"Wow. Alright, well, then we gotta work together," Walker said.
      "No chance," I said immediately.
"That's not happening," Bucky said at the same time.
"I think we stand a much better chance if we all just-" Walker started.
"Just because you carry that shield, it doesn't mean you're Captain America," Bucky said.
"Couldn't have said it better myself," I said.
"Kid, stay out of it," Walker said to me.
"Excuse me?" I retorted. "I may be younger than you, but I've done more in my lifetime than you could in two. Have you created the largest conglomerate company in the world while managing being a superhero from the age of fourteen? Have you fought Ultron's robots, the country's largest mob, a mad scientist, a cyborg virus, a murderous chemist, and the Mad Titan? Because I have. I don't care if you played football in high school or went to the military. To you, I'm not a kid."
He didn't respond to me and instead turned to Bucky again.
"Look, I've done the work, okay?"
"You ever jump on top of a grenade?" Bucky said.
"Yeah. Actually, I have. Four times. It's a thing I do with my helmet. It's a reinforced helmet. It's a long story, but, any... Look, it's twenty miles to the airport. You guys need a ride."
"Thanks, but mine's already on its way," I said.
Walker stopped the vehicle anyway and opened the door again. We shared a look with each other, then crawled in reluctantly.
The vehicle dipped down heavily at the weight of my suit. Bucky and I sat down next to each other. Sam on his other side.
"Okay, so we've got eight super-soldiers on a bulk supply run," Walker said. "Why?"
"To steal and deliver the bulk supply," I said sarcastically, earning a look from Walker.
I smirked and looked away as Sam began to speak. I'd rather not fraternize with this guy. I didn't feel it through the armor, but I watched as Bucky set his hand down on my thigh. We shared a look that showed we both didn't want to be in this vehicle with him.
"We need to figure out where they're going," Sam said. "How'd you track them?"
"Oh, uh, no. We didn't track them. We tracked you, uh, through Redwing," Walker's sidekick said.
I cocked an eyebrow at this.
"You hacked my tech?" Sam said.
"Sorry. It's not exactly hacking," Walker said. "It's government property. We're kind of the government. Does he always just stare like that?"
I looked to where Bucky was staring at Walker angrily.
"You get used to it," Sam said, then looked to me. "What about you? You hack my tech too?"
"No," I said. "But I did have a hand in designing your suit. I may have some additions of my own."
"What's that supposed to mean?" he said, causing me to shrug.
I went back to ignoring their conversation as I checked the location of my car that Smoak was bringing over. It was only a few minutes out now.
"Look, if you guys, if you joined up with us, we could-" Walker said.
      "No," Bucky interrupted.
"I got mad respect for both of y'all," Walker's sidekick said. "But you were getting your asses kicked until we showed up."
"Who are you?" Bucky said to him.
      "Lemar Hoskins," he said.
"That it? Because in my experience, no hero name, no opinion," I said.
      "Battlestar. John's partner," he said.
"Battlestar?" Bucky said, a hint of amusement in his voice.
He looked at me briefly before turning to the front of the vehicle.
      "Stop the car!" he shouted.
"Oh, finally," I groaned as the car pulled over and stopped.
Bucky and I immediately crawled out as Walker continued talking to us, then gave up and started to talk to Sam. I looked down the road as my car started to pull up to us.
A slate grey Koenigsegg Gemera, one of my personal favorites.
"Right on time, Smoak," I said.
"I strive for excellence," he said with artificial humor.
I walked over to the front of the car and popped the front hood. I placed my hands on the sides and machines immediately began to remove my suit and store it in places around the small front trunk. Once it was done I closed the hood and opened the door, stepping down into the driver's seat. Bucky came over and opened the passenger door, but stayed out of the car, waiting for Sam to come over so Sam could get in the back.
I watched as Sam scoffed at something Walker said, then made a comment and crawled out. He walked over to Bucky and I.
"Get in the back," Bucky said to him.
"Why do I gotta sit in the back?" he said. "You sit in the back."
"I got here first," Bucky said. "If you didn't wa-"
"Get in the car, Sam!" I snapped as I leaned my head on my fist, leaning on the side of my door.
He grumbled something, but climbed into the backseat anyway. Bucky leaned his seat back again and sat down, then closed the door. I buckled my seat belt and rolled down my window. The car roared to life as I put my foot on the gas and we quickly caught up with the military vehicle which had pulled away already.
I easily pulled up on the side and looked over to the three of them.
"Thanks for the ride, but ours finally got here!" I shouted over the soft wind.
Hoskins intentionally didn't look at me, but Walker looked at me impassively.
"Hey, driver!" I said. "Wanna race?"
I roared the engine a little. She didn't look at me, causing me to laugh a little.
"See you, John Walker," I said as I looked back to the road and held up my middle finger. I smirked and pushed the pedal down, pulling in front of them and flying down the road.
      I scoffed a little.
"Twenty minute ride to the airport," I mumbled. "Yeah, right..."
I pushed the pedal down further as we flew down the empty road.
