I sat near the front of the seating, watching the proceedings. I looked over to one of the attorneys as they stood up and approached the judge's stand.

"Your honor," he said. "I'd like to call forth our first testimony. Mr. Y/N Stark."

I felt my muscles tense slightly, against my better judgement. After a few moments Y/N was brought into the courtroom and seated at the bench. He met my eyes briefly as he was sworn in. I gave him a reassuring look.

"So, Mr. Stark, just so the jury is clear, you were present when the body of Miss Kate was found?" The defendants lawyer said.

"That is correct," Y/N replied. "I was the one who found her."

"And then you did what exactly?"

"I immediately called 911, then began to check for vitals. When I realized how weak and erratic her pulse was, I attempted CPR...it didn't help. She was already gone. Declared dead when the paramedics arrived."

"I see. And did you see anyone else on the street?"

"I did. A man, running away. I didn't chase after the man, instead checking on the girl."

"And what did this man look like?"

"I only saw him from behind. He was taller than me. He was wearing an army green jacket and blue jeans. A hat, navy blue. The back of his jacket had some form of...insignia? Like a logo, it was embroidered. An eagle, with the words 'Go down in Glory' on the top. The year 1997 on the bottom."

The lawyer nodded as he took this in.

"And there was no one else around?"

"Not that I saw."

"Not that you saw?"

"I was more focused on trying to save the girl's life. No, I didn't see anyone else on my side of the street, just the man who ran. Maybe there was someone on the other side, maybe not. I didn't realize it was normal for people to clock their entire surroundings while someone is bleeding out on the street."

"I didn't mean to upset you, Mr. Stark. There's no need to be hostile."

I watched with an amused sigh and a small smile as Y/N rolled his eyes annoyed.

"Did you see a weapon at the scene?"

"No. But the girl was killed by stabbing, that was plain to see."

"So I take it that it was clear she was stabbed multiple times? There was more than one wound and lots of blood, I take it?"

"Yes, there tends to be lots of blood when someone is stabbed, believe it or not," Y/N replied with a sarcastic glance.

"I have to ask you to take this serious, Mr. Stark."

"What do you mean? I thought I was. This is me taking it down a few notches."

I chuckled silently. That, I had to agree with.

The lawyer didn't seem as amused.

"I don't know why, Mr. Stark, but I feel as though there's something wrong with this story. You came by this girl, just before she died, even saw the supposed 'killer' run away. But you didn't hear this girl's screams or cries before she was stabbed. Surely she tried to call for help as she was being attacked. Were you not close by?"

"I did. Hear her, that is. I was further down on the street, so I ran towards the sound. That's how I found her. Though, I don't think there was much of a fight. There were hardly any defensive wounds. She was taken by surprise."
