7:12 amI flew closer to the feeling in my mind that I had been following, Wanda. I recognized her power signature from miles out, now it was just time to figure out where and what she was doing in Westview. She had to of been there alone, Vision was dead and I doubt she would start dating again this soon.
I hadn't seen or heard from Agatha in some time, so I was nervous she got here before I did.
As I got closer to the town my eyes snapped to where there was a large red shield towering over the ground and surrounding the small city. It was in the shape of a hexagon and its walls glitched and fizzled with energy. I lowered down to the ground as I approached the town. I landed just feet from the barrier and walked up to it.
I lifted a hand towards it as I got closer, it seemingly beginning to hum with energy at my presence. I took a deep breath before placing my hand against it. Blue energy shot away from my palm as it made contact and mixed with some of the red, creating a circle of my own energy in the wall.
The wall felt strangely familiar, a feeling I came to remember quickly. Wanda.
I took a deep breath as my eyes alighted with blue energy. I placed my other hand on the wall, the blue circle growing larger. I began to push on the wall and after a few moments I was able to slip through easily and unharmed.
I fell onto my palms on the other side, landing in some wet grass. I looked up and examined my surroundings to find myself on the outskirts of the town. I lifted into the air and began to continued to follow the feeling of Wanda's energy, but as I got closer I felt a different sensation creeping in. Something dark and familiar. I knew I was already too late. Agatha had already gotten to Wanda. I began to fly faster.
I came upon a side street, two figures catching my eye. As I got closer I saw who they were. Wanda and Agatha. I watched as Agatha threw a blast of dark purple energy at Wanda, throwing her across the ground.
I waved my hand and a tall barrier of blue energy appeared a few feet in front of Agatha. Her eyes snapped to where I hovered angrily. I lowered down next to Wanda and crouched down, offering my hand. She saw my hand, her brow furrowing with confusion, then looked up to my face. Her expression morphed into shock and I smiled a little down at her.
"You looked like you could use some help," I said slowly.
She smiled and laughed dryly a little.
"What are you doing here?" She said.
"I knew Agatha would come after you, so I've been working on finding you so I could help you defend yourself against her. It seems I was a little too late."
"Better late than never," Wanda said with a sigh as I helped her to her feet.
"What a happy reunion," Agatha called as she struck the barrier with energy and it collapsed.
Wanda and I walked back closer to Agatha, side by side, prepared to fight. Red energy appeared around her hands as blue appeared around mine.
"I can't believe how perfect this is," Agatha said as she walked closer to us. "Both of you here. Ready for me to take away. You're clearly both in over your heads. So, why don't you two surrender your magic to someone who knows what to do with it?"
Wanda and I shared an analytical glance as Agatha lifted into the air.
"And I'll let you both share this pathetic little corner of the world all to yourselves. What do you say?"
Through the connection Wanda and I always shared, I knew what she was planning. I lifted a car from across the street into the air at the same time she lifted her own into the air. They both slammed against Agatha and crashed into the front of the house.
Wanda and I shared a look, then walked over to the house, examining the cars. There were only two pairs of boots underneath. I scoffed and smirked a little at the reference. Wanda clearly didn't find it as amusing, giving me a look. We turned around as we heard someone approach.
I furrowed my eyebrows at the sight of a bright, pure white Vision. The mind stone was replaced with a soft blue circuit board. I cocked my head intrigued by the specter before us.
Wanda walked closer as well, intrigued.
"Vision?" She said, her voice shaking.
He didn't reply as she walked over to him to examine his features.
"Is it really you?" She asked.
Something seemed off about the intersection. I knew that this wasn't her Vision. Our Vision. I watched as he placed his hands on the side of her face.
"Wanda," he said.
I gasped in horror as I realized his hands began to tense. He was squeezing his hand tighter around Wanda's head, trying to crush her skull. Wanda grasped at his hands weakly. He lifted her into the air as she gasped.
"And I was told you were powerful," he said.
"She is," I said.
I reached forward, my hand lighting up with blue energy. Energy wrapped around Vision's torso and I lifted him into the air just as a streak of green came soaring past. The white Vision was tackled out of the way and Wanda landed on the ground again. I rushed over to check that she was okay.
After Vision threw the spectral Vision across the street he came back over to us.
"Where are the boys?" He said to Wanda, not giving me much thought.
"They're in the house. Safe," Wanda said. "Vision, I should've told you everything. The moment I realized what I had done."
"It's all right, Wanda," he said. "I know why you made this world, but this-"
"I can fix it," Wanda interrupted.
"Can you?"
I took Wanda's hand in mine.
"She can," I said. "We can."
She looked into my eyes for encouragement, then looked away as the spectral Vision walked out of the flames. I heard a hum of energy as Agatha appeared on the rooftop. I looked up to her as she spoke to us.
"Oh, this is awkward," she said. "Your ex, your boyfriend, and your 'adoptive' brother all together at the same party. Who are you gonna choose, Wanda?"
"Vision," Wanda said. "This is our home."
"Then let's fight for it," Vision said.
"Through fire and ashes," I continued.
Vision lifted into the air, darting towards the spectral Vision and locking into a battle. Wanda and I turned our attention onto Agatha. Agatha clicked her tongue and shook her head slowly.
"Two on one? Well, that just doesn't seem fair...how about we even this out?" Agatha said. "I'll bet you your little Sapphire Witch would like his own opponent wouldn't he? Maybe one of my puppets?"
She waved her hand and a man appeared, who bore significant resemblance to Pietro. I narrowed my eyes as he vibrated with energy and speed.
"And we'll have to throw up some wards to keep our little friend locked up now," she said, waving her hand.
She looked between the two of us again, then hummed evilly. She disappeared and Wanda looked over to the downtown, where she appeared. Wanda looked over at me, then at Pietro, then back to me.
I nodded once and squeezed her hand.
"I've got this," I said. "This isn't your fight. Against him. I'll handle it. Go get her, but be careful. She's tricky and dangerous. She gets cocky when you give her power. Use that to your advantage, outsmart her."
Wanda nodded and I squeezed her hand once more, before releasing it and turning on Pietro. I held my hands out a little as they glowed with energy.
Pietro jumped from foot to foot quickly, getting ready to fight.
"Oh, I've been waiting for this," he said. "A good old fashioned fight."
"Believe me," I said. "This won't be much of a fight."
I shot a hand out towards him, a blast of energy arcing towards him. He sped to the side, running circles around me. Everyone once in a while he would dart across and shove or punch me, leaving me reeling. The circle around me seemed as though he was everywhere at once, leaving me with no exit.
I growled as he punched me again and threw my hands to the sides. Blue energy cascaded away from me and threw him off his feet. He went rolling across the pavement, then started to push himself back up. Before he could take off again, I grabbed him with my energy. I scanned his body as he groaned, searching for how she was controlling him.
My eyes landed on the beaded necklace around his neck as it glowed with energy. I ripped it off with my powers, then let him drop to the ground. He looked at me fearfully.
"Please," he said. "Please, don't hurt me."
"You're free," I said.
He took a moment, then sprinted away. I looked toward the house, curious. I lifted into the air and reached towards the house, energy wrapping around the corner of it. I pulled my hand back and there was a hum of purple energy as some wards were broken. The corner of the house was ripped off the rest of it. I threw it aside and hovered closer to the house.
My eyes landed on a woman standing amidst the rubble. She had dark skin and frizzly hair. She had a certain sense of resemblance, but I couldn't put my finger on it.
"Y/N Stark?" She said, confused.
"Hello," I said plainly. "I take it you're here to help? And that's why Agatha had you locked up?"
She nodded.
"Monica Rambeau," she said, nodding towards me politely.
"Pleased to meet you," I said. "Need a lift? Or can you make it into town on your own?"
"I got it covered," she said.
I nodded, then turned away and flew towards the beacon of red energy. I came closer into town as I saw Wanda release her beacon, the shield coming down around town again. I watched, interested, as the boys and Vision were brought back into full existence.
I landed next to Wanda and helped Vision help her to her feet. She reassured the boys and hugged all of us.
I looked up quickly as I heard Agnes say a phrase in Latin. Wanda and I jumped into action holding our hands out forming a blue and red shield around us. Agatha's energy was reflected off, but once her barrage of energy was done, a great toll of energy was taken out of me and Wanda. I sighed as it stopped coming out of me and the pain went away.
I looked down to my hands as they began to turn black.
"Shit," I said quietly. "Again?"
"How sweet," Agatha said as she floated over to us.
I looked up as spectral Vision came into view again. Then to the other side as several military vehicle pulled into view. Armed men came streaming out of the vehicle and took aim at us. I stood behind the boys, energy sprouting into my palms as we got ready for a fight.
"Listen, boys," Vision said. "Your mother and I never really prepared you for this."
"But you were born for it," Wanda said.
Vision lifted into the air again as the spectral Vision slammed into him. We looked up as the military was lifted into the air by purple energy. Agatha held a spell in her hand.
"Same story, different century," she said. "There will always be torches and pitchforks for people like us, Y/N, Wanda."
She dropped the men, causing Wanda and I to catch them. Wanda turned to me and the two boys, Billy and Tommy.
"Boys, stay with your uncle Y/N and handle the military," she said. "Mommy will be right back."
Wanda lifted into the air to go fight Agatha. I looked down to the boys, then over to the military again. There was easily forty of them. I lifted into the air slightly as they took their aim on the three of us.
"Alright, boys," I said. "A good fight is always about keeping your eyes on your opponent and outsmarting them. If it gets physical don't start and stop, fight like water, like a dancer. Keep your movements fluid. Keep all that in mind and you'll be great, I'll lighten your load for you."
I lifted higher into the air and flew over the vehicles, landing on the other side. Over half of the men rushed over and formed a circle around me, taking aim. I kept an eye on the boys as they began to disarm the other soldiers.
"Any of you boys want to back out before we start?" I said slowly. "This probably won't end well for you guys."
"Fire!" One of them commanded.
I raised a hand in an instant and all the bullets that began to rain around me hovered in midair, blue energy floating around them. They floated aimlessly in a sphere around me, then I dropped them to the ground. The men stopped firing as they realized it wasn't doing anything. Some of them lowered their weapons, shocked.
"Why'd you stop?" I said with a smirk. "You look distracted. Something on your mind?"
My eyes flashed blue as I entered the minds of the men around me. Their eyes began to glow a faint blue, then they all collapsed to the ground, unconscious.
I turned back to check on the boys just as a man began to fire off rounds from a pistol at them. I gasped as Monica leapt in front of them and her eyes flashed orange. The bullets entered her body and slowed down, then slipped out the other side. Monica gasped as bullet slipped past her head and headed towards Billy, but he raised his hand and the bullet stopped. He dropped it to the ground. I approached the man from behind as his gun clicked. I grabbed him by the collar and thrust him against the side of one of the vehicles.
He shouted in pain as I pulled up on his arm.
"I've got half a mind to just kick your ass without any powers because of how weak you are. God...shooting innocent children? That's gotta be a new low for the government."
I pulled him backwards and threw him to the side. He stumbled on his feet, then regained his balance. He came swinging at me, but I dodged it and landed a palm against his chest. As soon as my palm struck him he flew backwards from blue energy, landing on the pavement in a roll.
"But the other half just wants to beat you with powers to show just how weak you really are," I finished.
I used my powers to put him unconscious, then rushed over to the boys and Monica. I tossed my hood back as I came close to them.
"You guys okay?" I said as I crouched down in front of them.
They confirmed the statement and hugged me, even having only known me for a few minutes.
"That was awesome, Uncle Y/N!" Tommy said. "You took them all down in seconds!"
"Last time I checked, you did too," I said with a chuckle.
"Did you see how I caught that bullet?" Billy said. "I just copied what you did!"
I chuckled and nodded with a smile.
"It was pretty cool. You learned that quickly. You've both got some cool moves."
"You too," they said simultaneously.
We looked over as the spectral Vision flew away from the library and Vision came out to us. The boys ran over, Monica and I trailing behind.
"That was brave," I said to her. "Believe me, once Wanda hears about what you did, any doubts she had about you will be unfounded."
Monica smiled a little and nodded once.
"I wasn't about to let Hayward kill innocent boys just because he couldn't take down their mother."
I nodded in agreement as Vision checked on the boys. I looked up as Wanda and Agatha locked into a vicious battle in the air. The skies darkened with a storm, red energy brewing inside it. Vision tried to go up to help her, but Wanda held him back.
I watched as she threw large blasts of energy at Agatha, all but giving her power up. I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion.
"Y/N, what is she doing?" Monica said as she looked over to me.
My mind raced through possibilities as he asked. I thought back to what I had warned her.
"Outsmarting her..." I said slowly. "Somehow. I know Wanda. She knows what she's doing."
Vision came back down after a moment and stood near the boys and I, throwing a nervous glance over his shoulder. It only took a few moments for me to realize that almost all her energy was expended, she floated limp in the air, her skin blackened.
"Mom!" The boys called, causing me and Vision to comfort them.
I watched, confused, as Agatha tried to fire a blast at her, to no avail. Her powers seemed all but gone. I looked around with a smile as I realized what she had done. In some of the cloud clearings, runes on the walls of the shield were visible. She outsmarted her.
In a huge display of power, red energy flowed and cascaded into Wanda, all her power returning from Agatha. With a huge explosion of energy Wanda hovered in the air in a new outfit made of red materials, a red crown on her head. Her full power was finally tapped.
We watched as the storm cleared and the two of the lowered to the ground. Agatha sat on her side, her energy expended. Wanda landed in front of her and I took my place at her side.
"Good girl," Agatha said, exasperated. "So, what now? You two just gonna lock me up somewhere?"
"No. Not 'somewhere,'" Wanda replied. "Here."
"Here?"
"Mm-hm," Wanda said. "I'll give you the role you chose. The nosy neighbor."
Wanda took a few steps closer as she said this, it suddenly dawned on Agatha. She looked up to Wanda, shocked and slightly scared. She looked over to me, almost begging, then looked back to Wanda.
"No. Please," Agatha said.
"I'm sorry," Wanda said.
"No, you're not. You're cruel. Just like him."
Wanda took a few steps closer causing Agatha to panic.
"You...you have no idea what you've unleashed, the two of you. You're gonna need me."
"If we do," Wanda said. "We'll know where to find you."
"Wait. Wait, wait, wait, wait."
Wanda touched the side of Agatha's head and with a blur of energy she was changed into normal clothes and hair. She had a forced smile on her face.
"Hiya, hon," she said. "Say, that's some kind of getup you're wearing. Did I leave the oven on, or is that just you, hot stuff?"
"You live here now," Wanda said. "No one will ever bother you."
"Okey dokey artichokee."
Wanda smiled a little, then turned back to us a little.
"I'll be seeing you, Agnes," she said.
"Not if I see you first, hon," Agnes replied.
As she walked back over to us the boys called her name and ran over to her. She chuckled a little, then embraced them, kissing their heads.
"So, it would appear that our dream home has been reduced to a fixer-upper," Vision said as he walked over to her. "I know you'll set everything right. Just not for us."
"No," she replied, causing me to sigh a little, quietly. "Not for us."
"Hmm. It's time," Vision replied. "Should we head home?"
"Yeah," Wanda said, then gave a smile to Monica. She turned to me and nodded her head after her. "You coming? You are part of the family, after all."
I smiled a little and thought about it briefly, then followed after her and the others. We walked down the streets of town until we arrived at the house. I walked inside with the boys as Wanda and Vision came in behind us. I used my powers to changed my blue and black gear into a pair of dark jeans and a blue hoodie. Wanda did the same to her own outfit as Vision's changed back to normal.
A few minutes later we had all gathered upstairs in the boys' room. I stood in the doorway, leaning against the doorframe as Vision and Wanda tucked them in.
"Big day today," Vision said. "Your mother and I..."
He trailed off as he made eye contact with Wanda. There were some unspoken words shared, but you didn't need to know them to read the somber mood in the room.
"Are very proud of you both," Vision finished finally.
"Yes," Wanda agreed, then looked back down to where she held Billy's hand.
"You know, a family is forever. We could never really leave each other, even if we tried. You know that, right?"
The boys nodded slowly. They each kissed a boys head, then traded places and kissed the other. Vision said goodnight as he walked over to where I was standing, along with Wanda. The boys returned the statement. I took Wanda's hand slowly as we looked up to where the Hex was slowly closing in. I looked over to where Wanda began to contemplate. Even without using my powers, only by our connection as friends, as siblings, I could feel her pain.
"Boys, thanks for choosing me to be your mom," she said.
The boys smiled up at her, then the three of us turned to leave the room, closing the door behind us. We walked back downstairs and lingered in the living room for a moment. I shared a glance between Vision and Wanda, then sighed internally. I walked over to Vision and wrapped my arms around him in a hug.
He returned the hug and I nodded politely at him as I stepped back.
"I'll see you around, Vision," I said slowly.
He took a moment, then nodded with a small smile.
"Yes, you as well, Mr. Stark," he said, then dropped his voice. "Take care of her for me."
I swallowed deeply and nodded.
"I will. I promise."
I squeezed the side of his arm once, then let go as I turned around. Wanda was looking at their family picture on the sofa table. I cleared my throat a little to grab her attention. She turned to me.
"I'll be right outside," I said.
She nodded and I stepped out the front door. I took a seat on the sidewalk, crossing my legs underneath me. I sighed lightly and peacefully as I watched the red walls of the Hex close in. It took only a few minutes for it to come upon me. I closed my eyes as the energy washed over me. I kept them shut for a few moments after, then when I opened them, my eyes had to readjust to the daytime. I took a moment to scan my surroundings, then pushed myself to my feet. I turned around to see Wanda standing inside the foundation of a house.
"Wanda?" I said slowly.
She turned to me and pulled her hood up as she walked closer. I looked at her sadly and offered her my hand. She took it and together we walked back into town. We were greeted with many of Westview's residents staring angrily at her. We both attempted to ignore their stares. We made our way through the city center until we encountered Monica. We stopped in front of her.
"They'll never know what you sacrificed for them," she said.
"It wouldn't change how they see me," Wanda said. "And you, don't...you don't hate me?"
"Given the chance and given your power, I'd bring my mom back."
"And I would've wanted to bring Peter back," I added.
"I'm sorry," Wanda said to Monica. "For all the pain I've caused."
"I know," Monica said.
"I don't understand this power. Not fully, neither of us do. But we will."
Wanda and I shared a look as we heard approaching sirens.
"Goodbye, Monica," Wanda said, causing me to nod in agreement.
We stepped away from her and waved our hands, warping our everyday clothes into red and blue robes, cloaks covering our heads.
"Bye, Wanda. Y/N," Monica said.
Wanda and I flew high above the town, making our way for the city limits. Once we got outside Wanda stopped to look at the city sign. I turned to her.
"Where will you go?" I asked.
"I don't know yet," she said. "I think I need some time alone. To practice my powers. And to...process everything that's happened."
I nodded in understanding.
"I wish I could go with you," I said. "But...I have responsibilities back in New York. I can't leave them. And...I can't leave my family."
She nodded sympathetically.
"If you ever need me," I said. "You know where to find me."
She nodded.
"Likewise," she replied.
"Goodbye, Wanda. We'll see each other again."
She smiled a little and nodded meaningfully at me, then turned away and began to fly away. I looked back to the town once more, thinking about Agatha trapped in there with her punishment. Twice she tried to steal the power of a being more powerful than herself and twice she failed. So why don't I feel like we won? Why do I feel like we just only started the fight?
I sighed lightly and shook my head with a smirk. I turned away from the town as well and began to make my way back towards New York.A/N:
Sorry this chapter took so long to roll out, I had a bunch of stuff going on and didn't get to write much. I hope you enjoyed. For the time being I'm not gonna be doing another trivia to choose the next chapter because I'm currently working on some chapters from my own ideas. If you want to leave a suggestion of something you'd like to read in the comments you can. If I think it's a cool idea or that it would work well I might write it eventually, but there's no guarantees.
Thanks, guys,
Lane
