New York City
11:34 amI stepped off the elevator as the doors opened and was greeted by Maggie from her desk with a smile.
"Hello, Mr. Barnes," she said. "Mr. Stark is in his office. Go right ahead in."
"Thank you," I said as I the doors to his office slid open. I walked inside and saw him standing off to the side, looking into a mirror that hung on the wall. He finished adjusting his tie as I walked over and he began to roll the sleeves of his shirt up to his elbows. He gave me a glance over his shoulder as I walked over to him.
"Hey," he said quietly with a smile.
"Hey," I replied as I came over and kissed his cheek.
He hummed in response.
"Easy day?" I asked as I walked over to the windows and looked out over the city.
"As it can be," he said with a shrug.
"No disasters or crises?"
He laughed a little causing me to smile. He shook his head as he finished rolling up his other sleeve.
"No," he said finally. "No disasters or crises. I'm beginning to wonder if you're joking when you ask that or if you're actually concerned that things have been too peaceful. Should I be worried?"
He finished his statement with a raise of an eyebrow and a playful smirk.
"Maybe," I said as I walked back over to him and put my hands on his waist.
He smiled and sighed as he wrapped his arms around my neck and pushed himself onto his toes.
"Why don't you just...sit back and enjoy it?" He said playfully and suggestively.
I chuckled a little and leaned down, pressing my lips against his. He hummed into my lips causing me to smile. Once my smile broke our kiss, I leaned my forehead against his. He looked into my eyes for a moment, then we pulled our heads away from each other's.
"You and I both know, more than most, that life is never that easy. Something'll come our way sooner or later."
"And we'll be ready when it does," he finished. "But for now...let's just sit back and enjoy what we have. Yeah?"
I smiled a little as I looked down into his E/C eyes. I succumbed not long after and nodded reluctantly.
"And right now, we have to get to dinner...because Sam and Sarah will be waiting for us," he said grabbing his phone off his desk.
He pressed a button on the corner of the desk and the many holograms that were on the glass disappeared and returned to normal clear glass. He pushed his chair in and grabbed his bag off the floor, slinging it over his shoulder.
"Come on," he said.
I took his hand as we exited his office.
"I won't be back in tonight, Maggie," he said. "Take the rest of the night off. It's Friday. I'm sure your kid is looking forward to seeing you."
She smiled politely and nodded.
"Thank you, Mr. Stark. You two have a nice night."
I nodded at her, then looked away as we entered the elevator.I laughed and wiped my mouth with a napkin as Sam finished his story. Sarah rolled her eyes, probably having heard the story many times before. Y/N was currently sitting next to me showing the boys how his powers worked. There were several forks and spoons swirling through the air with blue energy. The boys stared at them in bewilderment. Every once in a while I would see Sarah look over with some fear in her eyes, eyeing Y/N carefully.
She knew Y/N and she trusted him, this much I knew. But knowing what he can do, it's a scary possibility.
As the waiters began to bring our food over Y/N snapped his fingers and the silverware flew back to their original positions. The boys laughed a little, then straightened up as the waiters began to put the food down on the table. Along with a look from their mother telling them to behave.
"How many times did I tell you that you have to act polite in a fancy place like this?" She whispered to them, causing them to avoid eye contact.
"Oh, please," Y/N said with a soft laugh and a gesture towards the waiters. "They don't care. I've been in here a few times and they've seen a lot worse than a few rowdy boys."
She chuckled a little and nodded with a smile.
"Yeah, you should've seen the waiter's face this one time we were here," I started. "Y/N was using his foot to-"
I stopped speaking abruptly and seethed a little as Y/N kicked me hardly in the side of the leg. I met his eyes for a moment and he cocked an eyebrow.
"Sorry," he said. "I didn't mean to."
"Oh ho ho," I chuckled as I prepared to reach towards him to grab him, but was stopped as a waiter reached between us to set our meals down.
"Saved by the bell," Y/N mouthed as he began to cut his steak.
I shook my head with a smile as the waiter stepped away.
"I'll just have to get you back for that later tonight," I said quietly, making sure the others weren't paying attention as they began to eat their food.
Y/N looked at me deeply and smirked, so lightly it was almost imperceptible. I fought the urge to shiver as his eyes broke contact and began to wander down my chest and lower as he undressed me in his head.
"I'm counting on it," he said finally.
I didn't have time to say anything before he looked away and returned to conversation with Sarah and Sam.
"Did you guys figure out where you're gonna stay tonight?" Y/N asked.
"Yeah, we booked a hotel room on the trip over," Sarah said. "Sam was very adamant that we weren't going to spend the night at your guys' place."
"Hey! Shoot me, okay? It's not big enough for all of us," Sam said with a light laugh.
Y/N and I laughed in response too.
"Yeah, you're right," Y/N said. "It's not big enough for the four of you. But the Stark International tower does happen to have three floors of living suites. I just so happen to know the owner, I might've been able to get you a significant discount..."
Sam's jaw dropped open.
"Man," I said with a chuckle. "If only you had waited."
"Did you have to make a down payment?" Y/N said.
Sarah smirked a little and glanced over to Sam.
"We did not," she said.
Y/N chuckled a little and stood up, pulling his phone out.
"I'll be right back," he said with a smile as he walked away, bringing the phone to his ear. We all watched him go. As soon as he was out of earshot Sarah turned to me and smiled.
"What?" I said, taking a bite of pasta.
"Oh, come on," she said. "Do you really think Sam didn't tell me? Where is it? Are you gonna do it tonight?"
I chuckled a little and glanced over to make sure Y/N wasn't around. I reached into the pocket of my jacket and pulled out the small black box. I opened it slowly and displayed the shiny silver and diamond ring inside. Sarah gasped and inspected it closely.
"Wow..." her boys said.
"Holy crap," Sam said. "That's a big rock."
I chuckled a little and looked at it once before pocketing it.
"Do you think?" I said, a little nervousness in my voice. "Because I know that Y/N doesn't like those huge fancy rings. But I didn't want to get him something too small, you know? Do you think it's too big?"
"Bucky," Sarah said. "It's perfect. No, it's not too big. He's going to love it."
"Yeah, if he says yes," I said as I chuckled dryly.
"Oh, please," Sarah said. "Do you see the way he looks at you? He's going to say yes."
"Say yes to what?" Y/N said as he took his seat again.
My mind went blank for a moment, but Sarah didn't miss a beat and spoke up immediately.
"The boys were thinking about going to get ice cream after dinner. How does that sound to you?"
Y/N smiled at the boys and nodded slowly.
"I think that sounds like a great idea," he said.
Sam, Sarah, and I all shared glances as Y/N seemingly moved on and went back to his food. I gave Sarah a thankful glance as I took a sip of my wine, causing her to smile a little and nod subtly.
