You rubbed your eyes lying down on the cold hard floor of your room. The last thing you could recall was being lulled to sleep by Coraline in the forest.
So it was simple to put together that what was happening right now, was a dream.
You yawn, walking downstairs, as usual, to see your dream mother there with your other father.
"Hellooo Y/N,"
Your dad spoke up putting his arms around you to lift you in an embrace.
"I have another business meeting with Mr. And Mrs. Jones. You want to go there with me?"
He placed you down. The only thing you could do was look up staring at the blank expression of the two buttons staring back at you. A smile accompanied those eyes compelling you. Your shoulders shuddered uncontrollably before then straight-up leaving the house as your dad said.
He followed close behind you, almost anticipating your strange reaction.
He was the better father, one who understood your behavior patterns.
It wasn't going to be so hard getting to Coraline's house because you basically memorized the pathing back when the dreams were in a white room phase.
A simple line of padded dirt extended over a large Hill and led to the Pink Palace. Normally the cat would scold you about why you shouldn't be here.
'A Dream come true'
That is what he likes to call it. Only two then compare it to the barren Wasteland it once was.
The thing is, now you would trade the real world for this any day.
Of course, it was a dream come true, you wanted to stay here forever.
Is that so wrong?
You arrived at the only stable thing in these dreams. The house was constant and unchanging. It was so much brighter than both past dreams- In black and white- and in the muted shade of pink it was in reality. You saw Coraline sitting on the steps of her house like she was waiting for you. Coraline Blended in with her new surroundings as her bright hair was no longer the only bright thing around. She was just sitting there doing nothing, waiting for you to come closer.
You stood in front of her not speaking because of how foreign it felt to view her face with the buttons.
You're father passed by the two of you, waving before going inside. You didn't turn to face him as he did this instead you kept your eyes on Coraline. She only smiled and you couldn't help but feel your mind contort within your skull.
"What's up,"
She stood up from the stairs, standing in front of you to ease your hesitance.
"I wanted to give you something."
Coraline stuck her hand out for you to hold onto. You reached for her, grabbing her hand and putting it back to her side. You honestly wanted to slap it away, but you didn't know why you didn't. The other thought must have come first. Her smile stayed as she started walking, motioning her hand for you to follow. She led you around to the back of her house and into her parent's garden.
There was a wonderful array of flowers in her yard. She walked around collecting things as you stared down some of the buds. It was too colorful, you needed to breathe. Your retinas didn't want to handle the difference between tulips and weeping Bells. You used your hands to cover your face as deep greens and dark Blues flow evenly along highly contrasting flowers.
"You might know this already but there are other people who live in the Pink Palace. When you wake up we should go visit."
"You mean when I go back to sleep"
"That too"
You rub your shirt sleeves on your eyes harshly making dark purple spots that block some parts of your view. You felt a hand caress your own, trying to stop you from pressing on your eyes. Your face leaned acutely as you put your hands on Coraline's face to cover the buttons. Your fingers tugged gently on the plastic while your head leaned into her hand.
She didn't seem to mind what you were doing, keeping her hand on you to cup your face.
It was so childish.
You just found the buttons intriguing, as you fought the urge to rip them out of her face. They were black like most of the buttons on the other people. Black buttons seemed to be the standard choice but you have no idea why your brain wasn't more creative in selecting the color.
Your eyes trailed down to her other hand noticing she held a couple of poppy flowers. You took your hands off of her eyes holding the 3 flowers close to your face to smell. They didn't smell like much of anything, maybe dirt.
"If you want to take those back when you're awake, I would suggest putting them in your pocket for safekeeping"
You were kind of hoping for a rose to prick your finger on. Maybe eventually she'll get you one, maybe if you asked. You didn't have an opinion of her though. She was not positive or negative she just seemed to exist. You pushed Coraline's hand off your cheek and dropped the poppies in your pocket, seeing the reflection of yourself in her plastic eyes.
"I want your button eyes"
She took a step back, before fixing her posture. The buttons made her expressions hard to read but it was almost like she was scared of you.
"A-are you sure?"
Her head tilted somewhat and you followed her gaze to see your father watching you from one of the house's windows.
He stared intently, only breaking away once to smile at you. Coraline's head hung low shaking off your other father's stare and keeping a smile across her face.
"Ask your mom about it, and you might get your own."
Her voice lowered before she hummed another response
"But think about it Y/N"
