Wybie Pov
"What do you mean they're gone."
Panic set in as my mind raced, trying to figure out what happened to Y/N while I was gone. I dropped everything I was holding on the floor, more focused on the subject at hand.
Memory buzzed as I relived the first time I took them to the well. I saw what they wanted to do, I heard how unhappy they were.
I didn't want to believe that they jumped in the well, but it was a possibility they were waiting for me to not be around for the chance to do so.
It wasn't too far of a stretch but I couldn't get myself to believe it.
Coraline stood up and walked in the direction of their house.
"I'll go ask their parents about-"
"NO!"
I threw a hand up in protest viewing her shocked expression in full as I grasped the air. I clasped onto her shoulder preventing her from going any closer in the direction of Y/N's house.
"That will do more harm than good."
"How?"
"Because,"
My voice cracked as I stopped myself from talking. It wasn't my place to tell Coraline about their personal life. Especially since it was clear that they were feeling happy going at their own pace. I didn't want to go through the gory details.
"Because they'll probably be at your house anyway."
I walked back to the well closing it, so even if they were to come back they wouldn't have any urge to toss themselves in. Coraline looked like she was going to question me. Most likely saying something along the lines of 'How do you know they would be there?' but she ended up just shrugging her shoulders going along with what I said.
"You're the stalker Wyborn, I'll check half the woods along with my house. You go on your bike and do what you think is best."
I didn't even have the brain compacity to be annoyed with what she just said. My anxiety was stemming from the notion that I was never going to see them again. That they would be at the bottom of that well.
Your Pov
It was cold again, more than usual. Fog blanketed the ground completely making it easier for you to lurk around. You pulled out the poppy flower Dream Coraline gave you. She said something about the real world, about Coraline's neighbors that you had to meet.
There were 2 other rooms out for rent and you could go to either one. You figured the bottom apartment would be the best bet because the fog was coming in on the floor, and the apartment in the basement would be completely shrouded in it.
You snuck into Coraline's yard, pushing the big metal gate to enter the general vicinity of the house. The rags from your window wrapped around your neck like a scarf tight enough to choke you. Would that make it a noose? Nah.
Either way, you weren't going to risk your mother, or worse yet, your father looking through your open window to find your little escape rope.
God, why did you let Wybie convince you doing that is a better idea than jumping.
You clipped your gloves, pushing the rusted Victorian-style gate back closed. The life felt like it was draining out of you. The taste of medicine tainting your tongue down to your throat. It hurt, both physically and mentally. You didn't feel right, and you had tried scratching your throat to throw up, to no avail. Now there is just a puddle of stomach acid and spit out your window sill.
When you finally had friends, you could feel yourself getting better, especially knowing someone like Wybie wasn't going to tell anyone what you were feeling.
Your father signed you up for therapy before but that didn't seem to go well since legally you can't tell them certain things without them snitching to either your parents or the government.
