Bouncing with the rhythm of the car, you kept your chin on the window to feel the bumps punch your teeth.
Out of the window, a hospital could be seen from the distance. Your mother drove the car and had just finished another session with the doctors. A Session mind you that was about you.
The doctors were prescribing a higher dosage of medication to help control the number of manic episodes you were having.
The capsules were sat in a cup holder, also bouncing to the beat of the car. They were shaped into Hearts, Circles, and other various juvenile shapes. They had bright vivid colors to coax people into thinking they would work. When you open the bottle the scents of fruit and lemons fill your nostrils.
People would find it 'Cute' but you could obviously see through their lies. It was truly an obvious gimmick to entice people to take the pills. Since you were smarter than those people, you weren't going to take your chances and use them.
You could see your mother glance in the rearview mirror.
"You know If you didn't do this stupid crap, you wouldn't need these."
She accused you of being mental, not realizing the bittersweetness of her speech. Both your parents were fed up with having you be the way you are and were trying to find ways to change their child. All just too tired from receiving phone calls from schools that you were beating up a student or setting something on fire in the bathroom. It's not your fault kids got disturbed when you grabbed a rat off the street and ate it.
By this definition, you were 'insane' and that was the label given to you without a second thought. The only thing that was insane was the fact that these adults think taking a bunch of placebos is going to help with your 'conditions'.
The car stopped moving and the two of you exited.
It was nice coming home and seeing the wall's paint peeling off of them. There was just something so satisfying about coming home in the winter, and seeing tiny specks of dust floating around the house in different sizes and shades.
Your mother sat down to pour herself a drink and try to make you go to your room to sleep. You hated sleeping not because of anything around you but because your dreams were really Vivid.
It wasn't like it was anything new. You would be floating or standing in white space. Then see a house with the sign 'PINK PALACE'. It's grey on the outside and colorful on the inside, sort of like a jawbreaker. There was never anyone in the house but you still heard sounds from inside. Sometimes you'd go in if the lights were off, but alas nothing was there and rooms just abruptly turned a similar white to the outside void.
Every time you try to explain it to your parents they don't take you seriously.
This time was no different
"Go to sleep, I have a headache."
" I've been telling you about those dreams. It's not safe for me to sleep. Go inside my mind maybe you could make out what was trying to kill me."
"Nothing is trying to kill you, you said it was just a white room. Jesus, couldn't I have a normal kid?"
She mumbled but you could still hear her last few words come out of her mouth. She set down her beverage and got you one of your own. You noticed how she stood by the sink and briefly went into the cabinet before coming back with a cup of water.
"Here, if you're going to stay up you can watch TV with me. Your dad will be coming home in a minute so drink up. If you don't want a drink, I'll put you in your room."
She pushed the glass a little too hard causing it to Splash onto your clothes. She sat back down on the couch and circled her glass.
You look down into your cup. You could see your fake reflection in the water as it ripples with your sudden twitches because you just couldn't keep your hands steady. You took a deep inhale smelling the water as you look deeper into your reflection. The scent filled your lungs,
It smells like fruit and lemons
