"Good evening, (Y/N). It's nice to see you here so late," A familiar voice echoes out to you from the doorway.
You look up from the paperwork you were reading to see a familiar figure standing in your doorway. The blonde-haired man dons a black suit with his jacket only buttoned up half-way. You had been working with him and your other good friend Leorio for the past few months after Kurapika had introduced you to the new chairman for a newly-opened position in the Hunter Association.
You were surprised when Leorio told you that he and Kurapika themselves had started working for the Zodiacs, Kurapika becoming the rat, while Leorio became the boar after Ging and Pariston had resigned. Kurapika was hesitant to join but Leorio was able to talk him into it and Kurapika became quite an asset to them. You close your eyes as memories of when you first spoke with Kurapika and Cheadle about taking the position flood your mind.
"(Y/N) is a very intelligent individual and I'd like to recommend her for the vice-chairman position. I have known her for years now, furthermore, I cannot think of anybody else more suited for this position."
Cheadle Yorkshire, the newly elected chairman of the Hunter Association stands across from you with Kurapika standing beside her. She eyes you up and down before offering you a small smile, "Would you be interested in becoming my vice-chairman, (Y/N)?"
You nod and bow your head slightly with a smile on your face, "I'm honored you would even consider me at all, Cheadle-sama."
"I'm glad to hear that. We'll consider this an internship for a month or so," The dog-like woman explains to you, adding on, "It will be much easier for you to transition into the vice-chairman position without causing any unnecessary trouble for you."
You put your hand against your chin, saying your thoughts aloud, "Ah, so it won't raise any questions about my experience I'm assuming."
"I see Kurapika wasn't exaggerating about your intellect, although, he did go on and on about it. He seemed to only have good things to say about you," She says with a sly grin on her face as her gaze falls on the Kurta.
It's safe to say that this was something that you weren't expecting to hear. A genuine smile is evident on your face as you speak, "Thank you so much, Kurapika."
His eyes shift to you with a look of surprise, averting his gaze from you as he says, "There is no need to thank me, (Y/N)."
"Can you start next week, (Y/N)?" Cheadle wonders towards you, drawing your attention away from the semi-flustered Kurta, "I would like to introduce you to the rest of the Zodiacs."
"Of course, I'm looking forward to it."
"Perfect. I'll see you then, (Y/N)," She turns to leave the conference room, closing the door behind her.
This leaves just you and Kurapika behind in the room. You take a few steps towards him as you thank him once again, "Thanks for recommending me for this position, Kurapika. I'm happy that you think I would do well as the vice-chairman."
"Nobody else could do better," He explicates to you, a small smile on his face, "You were the only viable option. Obviously, I mean that in the best way possible. Suffice to say, there's nobody else who I would even consider recommending to Cheadle-sama."
"That means a lot coming from you. You must think pretty highly of me."
"That much should be obvious," He looks away from you with a grin on his face, before turning to walk out of the room, "I look forward to working with you, (Y/N)."
