TW: MENTIONS BLOOD AND GORE, MANIPULATION, SWEARING, AND CRAZY GREEN MAN
The air was filled with anxiety and fear. Dull lanterns lit the large hallways and ash from the Blackstone drifted through the air. The atmosphere was tense and that was the only thing George could focus on.
His footsteps echoed through the vast hallways as Sam's voice drifted through the open air. "He's not the same, I'm telling you. Something about him changed after L'Manburg..."
George looked down to the ground where he was walking. One foot after the other kicked up pebbles and dust from building the large prison. "I know, Sam. Just please let me see him."
Sam looked over at George with a solemn expression. "I'll let you see him, but just be prepared. He isn't the same Dream you knew."
As the two walked up the great staircase to reach the main holding cell, George became increasingly nervous. He felt sweaty and a lump had formed in his throat. The staircase seemed as though he was climbing a mountain as his legs had become heavy with invisible weights.
"Sam, am I going to regret seeing Dream?"
For the first time in a while, the Prison Warden was silent. He didn't know how to answer.
"I think... I think that's up to you, George."
---------------------------------------------------------
As the lava retreated from the ceiling, the first thing George saw was a disheveled, broken man. Blonde hair sat atop a wiry frame and scars littered the prisoner's face. George was taken back. "Sam, he isn't starving in there, is he?"
"What? No," Sam started. "I mean, he's only eating potatoes so honestly he isn't getting much in the way of nutrients." He then looked over at George and the extending bridge. "Make sure to stay with the bridge. Once you're over there, I'll retract the bridge and you'll have full interaction with the prisoner."
George nodded and stepped onto the bridge. As it started moving, he stumbled and nearly fell off, but caught himself and started walking along the extending walkway. Once it had landed to the obsidian floor, George stepped off and watched as his only exit retracted back to Sam's side.
"Just let me know when you're done in there. I'll wait right here."
Taking in a deep breath, the Netherite barrier receded. Stepping inside the cell, George noticed how there was no bed. Did he sleep on the floor? He then noticed a shadow on the far side of the corner.
George stepped towards a shadow in the corner of the cell. "D-Dream? It's me, George. You remember me?"
The figure shifted slightly before jumping out of the darkened corner towards George.
"George! It's been so long! How have you been?" A smiling figure launched itself towards the brunette and hugged him tightly. After a few seconds, the figure stepped back and there was Dream, smiling like a mad-man with sharpened teeth and glowing green eyes.
"H-Hey, Dream. How have you been? I saw that you had lost weight and I'm hoping Sam isn't starving you."
"Oh Sam?" Dream laughed and shrugged. "He hasn't been doing much. Honestly I'm applauding him for being so patient with me. I know I can be a little pushy and I know I can be a little crazy, but you're here to visit me! That's more important than Sam."
"Hah, yeah. Right. Has Sam been treating you well though? I noticed you're a little.."
Dream looked down at himself before looking back at George. "I'm a little gaunt, I know. I'm only given potatoes so I don't get a lot of nutrients. It looks like you're eating well though."
