"What are you doing, little one?"

I straighten up as Chiron licks my face and my grandfather walks down the path towards me.

"I left school because---I was in the yard, and I picked up a trail, of night creatures," I say, looking back down at the leaves, "Uncle Hector doesn't let them come up anymore. So what are they doing?"

"Maybe they got to wandering. Anyway it's not for you to worry about all right? Let me and your dad worry about night creatures," he says, smiling a little.

"What are you doing out here in the middle of the day?" I ask, frowning.

"Worrying about night creatures," he says, smiling his half smile, "You're a strong one. But you don't need to be off by yourself. Especially not in the day."

"How do you know I'm stronger at night?" I ask, frowning.

"I suspect; I don't always know, don't think too much about it," he says, "Go on, back to school with you. You've got a twin who needs protecting from bullies I'd expect."

"Sol should be able to take care of himself," I know he can't though. But sometimes I get sick of looking out for him.

"Some take longer than others. Took your dad years to figure out how to summon a full storm on his own---sure he could do it when he was sad but he didn't know how. Sol'll find his way someday," he says.

"But if you've read all the prophesies, you know what he can do—don't you?" I ask.

"Doesn't matter until he knows it, though, does it?"

"I guess. Are you going to tell my dad there are night creatures coming up again?"

"I am going to handle the situation. I've got an idea what's going on. And I'd prefer for fewer people to be troubled," he says, "Off to school with you now. And try not to wander about so much for a few days eh?"

"All right," I say, frowning, he's rarely so serious. He knows I can mostly take care of myself, especially when it comes to mortals. I start to walk away, it's not like he's ever not trusted me take care of myself, not since my mom got me my bow. I stop and turn around. "Do you think one of us is summoning them?"

"School, bye," he waves.

"Do you think Uncle Hector is sending them on purpose?"

"Bye now, do I have to walk you myself?"

"Fine," I sigh. I'll find out one way or another.
