Detective Stamos
"What do you mean she's joined the International Space Station?" Della is smarter than Basil thinks she is.
"I mean exactly that. Her degree is in biology they need her up there growing—potatoes ---she wanted to surprise us we're having a going away party Sunday. That's not really why I came--- do you want to go to a rave?" Basil asks, very believably.
"What's wrong with him?" Della asks me.
"He's sober. Do you want to go to the rave or not?" I ask.
"You're delusional," Della says to him, "If you think this is a substitute for bringing my daughter home—"
"It's the truth there's a party she'll show us her space outfit, Dara can tell us all a lot about space I didn't invite Hector just to make you happy-------anyway rave, we're going tonight, we think Helen's the cause of it, all of us are going Jasmine said she would as well if you want to see her---?" Basil offers. There is actually a party. I think this is one of the dumber things these damn kids have done but so be it. Thyme was contracted to go and get party things that are space themed. I said that there were fifteen different easier more believable things to do starting with faking her death and Dara agreed with me and that's why I like that kid.
"No. I'm not going to watch you get drunk and lie badly about where our daughter is," Della says, slamming the door.
"Well that went well," I say.
"You think? Good," Basil says, then shouts, "Party is Sunday at noon you have to be there."
"I will be!" Della shouts from inside. I'm so glad their communication style has not matured since they were sixteen.
"Will there be cake?" Dara asks, holding both of our hands.
"Sure, a cake shaped like a rocket ship," Basil says, pleased with himself, "Do you want to come, Detective?"
"Sure," do I want to see them all argue and lie to each other? Of course, I might even get away with arresting Rhea while they're bickering and talking about Basil's secret family they aren't supposed to talk about but somehow always do. "Where's Rhea anyway?"
"He said he was making himself scarce from the house---I forgot I'm mad at you! Stop arresting him" Basil says, annoyed.
"Ha, no," Basil's mom got to hit him today it was fun. Thyme stopped me after a bit. It was nice she hadn't gotten to slap him lately. A few weeks ago it was gonna be her turn but I decided to give Hector's aunt a turn and I learned that not only does Rhea speak fluent Spanish but she was not actually mad at him because he 'saved the poor baby from the trash bag'. Anyway.
"Okay, who is coming to the rave with us then?" I ask.
"Ah, Jasmine said she'd go—"
"I want to come!" Dara says.
"You can't, I'm sorry you can come to a rave another time with me, tonight I need you to stay with your grandma-----Thyme said he was out. Hector said he'd come in case we needed him to be invisible with Helen. Luke said he and his husband would come and leave their kid at my mom's," Basil says.
"Where are your little ones? Other little ones? Back with their mom?" I ask.
"No, I told them that we were gonna move back home tomorrow assuming mommy isn't starting wild parties to murder me, and since then Elena, Juno, and Isa have been barricaded in my mom's loft, refusing to come out," Basil says, "Apparently they want to live with their grandma now but they were generous and said Dara can come join the barricade at any time. They're singing songs from Les Mis. It's intense."
"Fabulous, okay, is your mom okay with that?"
"She's happy they're all in one room so long as they don't escape she isn't worried," Basil says, looking at his phone. "She says not to worry about it."
"Okay then we won't, Elena being good?" I ask. She has a little super-villain outfit and calls herself the Terror and nobody is concerned about that except me and I don't think we talk about it enough. While Thyme is the reason I'll probably go back to drink, Elena's probably just the reason I'll die.
"Yeah she knows I'll take away and burn her dolls if she uses her powers on family members."
"Could—could you expand that to her classmates?"
"No, I don't actually want to take away her dolls. I don't want the kids to see me cry. Again. While disciplining them. Again," Basil says.
"Okay, whatever, are we picking Luke up?"
"No, he'll meet us at my mom's I told him you were driving. Jasmine's going to meet us outside of town, wherever you said the raves usually are."
"Fair enough, do you think it'll happen tonight?" I ask.
"Well, dad promises that she's unattended. So I'd assume yes. I mean we know she's doing it pretty much? What Thyme described isn't natural. At all," Basil says.
"Speaking of where is he?" I ask, "He's not coming tonight?"
"No, he said he was meeting his girlfriend, I didn't want to bother him when he's not apparently stabbing people."
