Cronus
I wake up on the sofa, a soft blanket draped over me.
"When did I fall asleep?" I ask, sitting up and rubbing my still unfamiliar face. The room is dark and the clock reads after eleven pm.
"While you were talking," Gia says, moving my feet to sit down next to me. "You looked like you needed the rest."
"Where's the kid?" I ask, looking around, the house is quiet.
"She went to party with a friend---in a little town a few hours from here, it's called Winfell. Is there any chance that isn't near where your world destroying monsters are?"
"Oh none whatsoever, we have to go find her," I say, standing up.
"You're kidding," she sighs.
"No that's literally where---at least some---of them are if not all. Rhea knows about you and so probably her, I wouldn't put it past them to take her to get to me—us---me—"
"It can be us," she says, smiling and standing up, "Let me text her though, ask her exactly where she is."
"No---no don't make her suspicious. It's fine I can find her," I say, rubbing my temples, "Um---do you have a car?"
"Yes, Jace, I have a car. Do you want to change first?"
"Why?" I'm wearing the remains of the grey suit I got the body in.
"Maybe lose the jacket? Look less like an FBI agent from the fifties who got possessed by an alien I don't know—"
"What, you don't like the body?" I ask, kissing her lips.
"The body is an improvement on the last one. I definitely like what's in it," she says, putting a hand on my cheek, "Come on, let's go find her."
"Okay, I'm driving."
"You're definitely not driving."
"I haven't driven in---however long it's been," I still don't' remember. Fucking Underworld.
"It'll all come back to you," she says, rubbing my back, "And that's the reason I'm driving."
"Or you could tell me," she really hasn't said much helpful that is annoying.
"In one of your extensive 'this is how to handle my alienness lectures'---which included a bad power-point by the way--- I distinctly remember your instructions on handling you if you were ever exposed to the Underworld."
"Why would you remember that bit and not what the lecture was called because it was not called that?" I ask, as we go out to the garage. She has a fast little car I like it.
"Because you said 'so if I get killed and sent to the Underworld' and then you started the powerpoint and I woke up a bit and though 'this dude looks likely to get himself killed I'd better listen' and I did," she says, grinning slyly as she gets in the driver's seat.
"I really gave you a powerpoint on that specifically?"
"Yeah."
"I'm such an ass."
"Nerd was the word I floated around."
"Oh nerd is fair," I say, as I get in. smooth leather seats. I smell them. "it's not real leather."
"Uhuh please don't smell things."
"What bodies do you like?"
"I'm not answering that question."
"No, seriously, I'm hungry anyway."
"I'm really not answering that question. We have food at home."
"Fresh food is better and I want a body you like."
"You're fine it's—it's fine. We'll discuss this after you avenge the genocide of your people by fighting God which is I understand what you are doing."
"I'm fighting multiple gods," I say, tiredly.
