A plethora of heads turned our way before more cheering erupted. A group of guys headed in our direction with cups in their hands.
"Drinks, ladies?"
Beck and I cocked our eyebrows at them before looking at eachother.
Rule #1 of parties: Never take drinks from people.
"We're good, fellas. Thanks for the offer, though." Beck had already began pulling me away.
"You drink?"
"Not really. I like getting high though." I explained.
It's weird. You think after the one thing that took my father away from me would make push me away, but it didn't. I needed to feel it. If I ever felt numb, I got high. It made me feel guilty; anything's better than numb. I refuse to become like my mother.
"I like you." Beck smiled as she poured herself a cocktail.
"Where's the heart of the party?" I nodded in direction of everything, referring to Mateo.
"Ah, probably hooking up with someone right now. Which is lame, I wanna dance."
She downed a big gulp of her drink before setting it in the sink and pulling me to the music. She shimmied her shoulders and wiggled her eyebrows which caused me to let out a hearty laugh.
"Cmon, MJ. Bust those moves!"
I thought about it for a second before giving in and dancing with her. We tangoed a bit, shook a little here and there, *wink wink.*
We danced for what seemed like hours, but was only about 15 minutes before Carter and a few other boys showed up, causing the party to erupt even more.
Carter shuffled over to me, drink in hand.
"Hey hey! You came!" He spoke loudly, trying to speak over the music.
"I couldn't turn it down for the world." I smiled at him. He looked so natural at this kind of stuff, so happy. Carter Jackson was a free soul.
"Where's your drink?" He was still bouncing on his toes which made my eyes wiggle up and down to look at him.
"I don't drink." I shook my head, also trying to be as loud as the music.
"Oh, that's cool too. I'll make sure you'll have a good time without it!" He flashed a genuine grin before being pulled away by a crowd of people who yelled shots.
To my surprise, Beck was still dancing by herself. I shuffled back over to her before her smile got even bigger.
"Are you having fun?" She yelled, still moving her shoulders and bopping her head.
"Tons!" I exaggerated.
She rolled her eyes before pulling my arms and slow dancing with me. It must've looked super weird as rap music was currently blaring from the speakers.
"I'm gonna be so hungover tomorrow." She cringed at her own future pain.
"That's why you live in the moment, darling."
We giggled before something in the corner of my eye caught my attention.
There was a girl dressed in a basic sun dress sitting in one of the chairs, eyeing up Beck. Her short hair covered her face slightly, but I could still see the desire for Beck in her eyes.
I tapped Beck's shoulder before nodding in the girls direction. Beck made eye contact with her before looking back at me and winking. She shimmied her way over to the girl before sitting next to her.
