Barrys

I wake up to the sound of birds chirping.i stretch with a yawn and go and check to see if my dad is home.I walk downstairs and see a note on my counter.

Heading out to Barry's,don't eat any of the food

I don't have to second guess as I already know it's from my dad.I go to my parents room and see that my mom had already left.I sigh.since I have nothing to do I decide to go to the beach.I run upstairs,put my bathing suit on then throw an oversized AC/DC shirt over it and head out.

As I'm walking I look up from my phone and look over to a dock.my lips tug slightly upwards as I see the blonde boy.I walked down the dock and rest my arms on the railing beside him looking out into the water.

"Why did you leave in a rush yesterday?" He speaks up after a while.I turn to face him,and I can see him better,since last night it was dark and I could just barely make out his facial features,but now I could see everything.he was absolutely stunning.

"Curfew" I answer with a small smile and he nods.I can tell he didn't believe my lie but he let it go. "How come I've never seen you before?" He asks.I shrug, "not much people know me I guess" I say.

"How could someone not know a pretty girl like you?" He asks and I turn away from him with a slight blush appearing on my face.I don't answer and instead continue with a question of my own.

"What's your name?"

"JJ"

I smile and we both turn back to the water watching it as the morning wind breathes on us.

We talk for a little while longer when I look at the time and see it had been two hours.I then get a text and I look at it.

'Come pick me up from Barry's' it read,from my dad.I roll my eyes.I can't even drive yet.

I feel JJ looking over my shoulder. "Barry's?" He asks and I quickly move my phone out of his sight. "Umm,I-I gotta go" I say backing away from him.he looks at me confused. "How does your dad know Barry?" He asks.wait how does JJ know Barry.I can't find the words to say before I turn around and walk off.

I ignore his questions.

I get home and get in the car and start to drive.i arrive at the run down house.I get out and see my dad and Barry sitting on his front porch.The smell of weed instantly hits me in the face like a wave.as I get closer I see another man with him. "Ohhh Lacey,your h-here" my dad slurs.I just nod and give the men a small wave.I try not to touch anything at it's all worn down and chipped from paint.

My dad gets up. "Nice m-meeting you Mr.Maybank" my dad slurs waving at the man sitting by Barry who also seemed drunk.Maybank?I don't think I know any Maybanks.

I lead my dad to the car and he gets in the passenger seat.I start the car and pull out of the driveway. "Dad?"

"Yeah"

"I can't do this everyday." I quietly say scared of his reaction. "So?" He asks. "You need to stop." I say when I feel a small sting on my face.my lip quivers, "you don't get to tell me what I can and can't do!im an adult and you are a child!" He shouts and I get quiet.

I let out a silent sob. "H-honey I'm sorry" he says getting low again.he always does this. "I-It's okay dad." I say through tears quickly wiping my eyes.

I pull in the driveway. "Lacey I'm sorry" he says again. "Dad,it's fine!" I say not meaning to be rude.he huffs and stumbles out of the car and into the house.I bang my hand on the wheel. "Fuck!"

After a while of calming down it starts to get dark.I finally get out of the car and walk in the house.I can't find my dad anywhere.I slowly creep down the hall to my parents room and creek the door open and see him laying asleep.

I need a break from this house.I can't deal with this anymore.I walk up to my room and look in the mirror.my red tear stained face and a slight mark on my cheek where I had been struck by my own fathers hand.

I huff and yank my board off the ground.I throw my phone on my bed and climb out my window.I hop down and start to the beach.my sadness soon turns into anger.

I get down to the beach and instantly run into the water.my board cuts through the waves.my wet hair flings across my face.I feel my anger wash away with the waves as I shred through the water.

My muscles ache and I sit down on my board letting the current take me where it wants.I close my eyes just listening to the sound of crashing waves. "Save some waves for us!" I hear from behind me snapping me out of my trance and I turn to see JJ and a few other people.I smile.JJ and two other boys start to catch waves.

A girl paddles to me and I smile at her.she has pretty brown curly hair. "Hey" she says. I smile at her instead of giving her an answer. "Your Lacey right?" She asks and I nod. "Who are you?" I ask. "Kiera,but you can call me Kie" she answers and i nod.

"JJ told me about you" she says and my face goes surprised. "Really?" I ask and she nods.

I look down at her hand and see several bracelets. "You make bracelets too?" I say and she nods. "Yeah,I can make you one if you want" she says "yeah that would be nice" I say with a smile.

"So who are those guys" I say pointing out to the guys with JJ. "That one right there,that's John b,the other one is pope." He says pointing and I nod.

"Hey,what's on your face" she says pointing to my cheek.I mentally cure myself. "Oh it's nothing" I say but she doesn't answer. "You can tell me.I won't tell the guys I swear" she says and for some reason I believe her. "My dad gets a little angry sometimes" I mumble and she nods.

"I just don't want JJ to see it" I add, "you know you can stay at my house if it gets bad" she says and I smile at her offer but then turn it down. "No,no,it's fine" I say and she frowns.

The boys then paddle over JJ gets by me and the others get on kie side. "This is John b,and pope" JJ says and I nod. "Yeah Kie told me" I say and he nods. "I'm Lacey" I say "yeah we know" they say and JJ's face goes red and I chuckle.

"Well I really should be going home,but it was nice meeting you guys" I say and they smile as I start to paddle away.

"Hey I can walk you home if you want?" JJ asks following me. "Umm,I don't know if that's a good idea." I say and he gives me a confused face.

I walk onto the shore and stop infront of him. "Why?is it because of that Barry thing" he says and I frown. "Can we not talk about that" I say,looking over his shoulder making sure the others didn't hear,he frowns after. "I just wanna know" he try's. "There are some things that should just be kept as secrets" I say and he looks at the ground.

"Look,JJ I'm sorry,I just don't really wanna talk about it,right now" I say and he looks up at me and nods. "That's fine" he says and I give him a weak smile wave everyone bye and walk home.
