Eren Jaeger woke up, and found himself completely startled by his surroundings. He looked around frantically, trying to figure out where he was.

He did not recognize the place, but he was quick to assume it was some sort of prison. Yet what he did recognize were the two men sitting across from him behind the bars of the cell — Commander Erwin Smith and Lance Corporal Levi, from the Survey Corps.

"Do you have any questions?" Erwin broke the silence.

"U-Um..." Eren doubted. "Where... am I?"

"As you can see, it's a dungeon," explained the Commander. "You're currently in the Military Police Brigade's custody. We've only just received permission to see you."

Eren suddenly felt the absence of the key that usually hanged around his neck. The key to his father's basement. Potentially, the answer to the titan mistery.

He looked around once again, now focusing on finding the said object, which he found in the hands of Commander Erwin.

"Ah! That key is..." Eren spoke.

"Yes, it's yours. I'll return it later" Erwin assured him. "Your home — Dr. Jaeger's basement in Shiganshina is where the secret of the Titans lies. Correct?"

"Yes, probably" Eren admitted. "That's what my father said."

"You have amnesia, and your father is missing, huh?" Lance Corporal Levi spoke for the first time, making Eren gulp. "Sounds awfully convenient."

Eren felt intimidated by man. If only he spoke to me the way he speaks to Eva...

"Levi, I believe we've already concluded that he has no reason to lie..." Erwin continued. "We're still very much in the dark, but I think what's best for us now is to question your intentions."

"My... intentions?" Eren was confused.

"In order to investigate your home, we must recapture Shiganshina District and Wall Maria" Erwin explained. "Drastic measures are necessary to quickly seal the gate. Your Titan power will be crucial. It seems our fate is controlled by the Titans, after all. Whether it's the Colossal Titan or the Armored Titan, they're likely to be the same as you. Your intentions are the key here. The key to freeing mankind from this despair."

Eren reflected on his words momentaryly, until he was urged by Levi.

"Hey, answer already, scum" the Captain's tone was still cold. "What is it you want to do?"

"I want to join the Survey Corps..." he spoke. "I've always wanted that. Me and my sister Eva. I think you know her."

Levi's expression softened just for an instant at the mention of her name.

"I want to join the Survey Corps... and slaughter some Titans!" Eren maniacally spoke.

"Oh? Not bad" Levi admitted. "Erwin, I'll take responsibility for him. Tell that to the top brass. It's not that I trust him. If he betrays us or goes berserk, I'll kill him immediately."

"Eva will kill you if you do kill me..." he commented, absentmindedly.

"Tch. I'll deal with her later," Levi spoke, turning to address Erwin, who actually worried about the influence the girl could potentially have on Levi's judgement. "I doubt anyone will object. There's no one better suited for this, after all. I'll accept your enlistment into the Survey Corps, Eren."

Suddenly, the door leading to the dungeon they were in creacked.

"Are you expecting a visit?" Levi asked in an almost despotic manner.
