Her brother was dead.

"Eva," Sasha grabbed her shoulder, shaking her slightly. "Your orders?"

"Keep moving forward" she couldn't look at them, her voice was ice cold, dead —mechanic even. She spoke with no emotion whatsoever "Keep working as we did, in two's."

Eva stood up slowly, still not completely out of her trance. "Armin, you are paired with me."

"I'll just walk to the rearguard" Armin spoke, not able to look at her in the eye.

"THAT WOULD BE A FUCKING ORDER, CADET ARLERT, YOU HEAR ME!?" Eva screamed desperately, and finally turned around to look at all her squad. Her fellow cadets. The people she had been sharing the last three years with.

The living.

"NOW EVERYBODY! DON'T YOU DARE DYING ON ME, UNDERSTOOD!?"

All of them looked at her with worry, unsure of whether she was emotionally stable. Of whether she was fit to lead them into battle.

As if it was their cue to prove her, a group of three titans appeared before them.

"Eva?" Sasha questioned, needing orders from her squad leader.

In the blink of an eye, before any of her comrades was able to even notice her moving, the first head flew off, swiftly detached from the shoulders of the first monster to fall victim of her swords. The helical motion of her blades cut up the limbs and eyes of the sencond one, and only an instant later, the nape was cut as well. Her squad watched in admiration as the third monster quicky followed the same fate as the other two.

The steaming blood of the titans dripped from Eva's forehead. It was a rather horrifying picture to look at. She immediately made her way back to the roof, ready to lead her comrades into the battlefield. To protect them.

Because she couldn't protect Eren.

Nothing could get in her way. She knew it. All she saw was blood and despair.

And those titans were going to pay.

"Advance!" she screamed, disregarding her already blunt blades, and quickly replacing them. "That goes for you too Armin —I don't intend to lose you too!"

They run into another group of four titans. Eva gave her orders and the groups of two were able to bring them down without major difficulties.

Suddenly, bells were heard all over the city once again. Eva looked around, but there was no sign of either the Colossal or the Armored titans, so the bells signaled retreat.

"Gas check everybody" she ordered, as they stopped on a rooftop, with other groups of soldiers around them.

Nobody has enough gas to climb the wall.

"Hey, Eva, what do we do now?" Connie nervously asked. "What can we do?"

"We've finally received the order to retret,  but we can't get over the wall" Jean pointed out the obvious. "We are all going to die. Thanks to those fucking cowards..."

"You mean the supporting squads?" Connie asked.

"Jean" Eva tone was as cold as ever. "I don't remembering allowing you to die, now did I?"

"N-no" the guy shuttered.

"Good" Eva faced the rest of the squad. "The supply building is obviously surrounded. We are getting in to replenish."

"Are you insane?" Connie asked incredulous.

"Would you rather wait out here to die?" Eva retorted aggressively, "because you are not allowed to do so."
