〰️〰️〰️

Eva spent the night in a state that could not be described. It could only be felt.

It was as if her heart had been forcefully yanked out of her chest and she could no longer feel any emotion. She was numb.

Eren's words and the images of the evening replayed again and again during that sleepless night.

And lucky her, the following day was going to be their first official training day as scouts. She hoped her muscle memory and instincts would not betray her —she wouldn't want to make a fool of herself in front of the whole regiment.

At breakfast, she sat next to Eren, strategically giving her back to the Officers' table.

"Are you okay, Eva?" Mikasa questioned. "You look sick."

"I am fine, Mi" she gave her a soft smile. "I just didn't sleep very well" or at all.

"Is it because of what I said?" Eren asked, feeling guilty already.

"What did you say?" an angry Mikasa cut him, glaring at him.

"No, no, Eren, don't worry" Eva tried to calm the mood. "But you were right. I was just being stupid."

She fought the urge to throw up, as goosebumps appeared on her skin.

Eva played with her toasts, but after a few inconsistent bites, she decided to give them to Sasha.

"Eva, are you sure?" the other girl doubted, "you skipped dinner yesterday... And you look bad."

Wow, I really must look like one ugly titan for Sasha to pass on an opportunity to eat.

At least the training day was scheduled go begin with hand to hand combat — Eva needed to release some stress.

The whole regiment minus Levi, Hange and Erwin seemed to be present that morning at the training grounds.

Mike Zacharius, who Eva recognized from their final assessment was assigned to be in charge of the session, and thus of announcing the partners as well. "Eld Jinn vs. Eva Jaeger"

A blonde guy that Eva recognized to be in Levi Squad made his way towards her.

Just my luck! She mentally cursed. At least is not Petra.

The guy looked at her from head to toe, and his facial expression morphed in a gesture that was almost sad — he was regarding her as if she was some sort of wounded animal. As if he pitied her. Eva could not bare it.

"Don't let my appearance deceive you, sir." Eva snarled, enraged. "I can take a fight. No need to hold back."

Yet the guy doubted. It was written all over his face and posture. Eva had seen too many fights to miss on that.

Once given the instruction to begin, he charged against her with a right punch — a rather sloppy one. He really was not taking this seriously.

And he is going to regret it.

Eva was definitely not going to take a half fight, so she swiftly dogded the punch, and at the speed of light deliveded a kick with her left leg. She grabbed his extended arm to flip him over and pin him to the ground, making the guy cough due to the sudden lack of air in his lungs.

"I told you. Don't hold back" Eva made sure to mark every single word, before standing up and giving him a hand to help him up, which he gladly took.

"Alright, I'll give you my all" he smirked.
