A red flare was fired.

Eva saw it from the corner of her eye, as she was slicing her blades through the nape of a titan.

The plan had failed.

How? she questioned. Perhaps he couldn't control titan... Now it's up to Mikasa and Armin to actually make him do that. I will protect them, as I have always done.

She saw two titans approaching where the group should be. She had advanced too much, in hopes the plan was going to be executed swiftly.

Eva retreated to take the 6 and 10 meter class titans threatening the elite squad. As she approached the group, she noticed Eren's titan body sitting against the blouder, unmoving, while Mikasa screamed his name in despair.

Eva made the two titans fall to the ground, finishing them off easily under the scrutiny of the Garisson troupes.

"Ian, we're retreating!" Mitabi spoke. "Sealing the gate is the least of his worries."

"Yeah. We have no choice but to abandon him" Rico agreed.

"Will you give him a second!?" Eva shouted, swinging abruptly to take another 12 meter titan approaching from their backs. "Just have a bit of faith and hold on to him for a moment!!"

"Easy to say!" Rico snarled back, "he is your brother."

"Ian, what are you waiting for? Give us the order!" Mitabi pleaded. "Ian, it's not your fault. It was a faulty plan to begin with. We all know that! It was certainly worth a shot, and we've given it that already! Listen, we're going to climb back up the wall!"

Eva took down the 12 meter titan approaching them, not ready to leave her brother behind just yet.

"Wait Mitabi!" Ian ordered. "Jaeger was already taken down the immediate threats. We are not giving up just yet."

"What!?" a bewildered Rico questioned.

"I'm the one who was appointed leader!" he stated. "Shut up and obey. We can't leave titan Jaeger unprotected like that. We'll modify the plan. Until we can recover him, we'll protect him from the Titans. He holds valuable potential for mankind."

"We can't give up on him that easily" Eva smiled when hearing the leader's words. "Unlike us, there's no replacement for him, after all."

"So you're telling me you want to carry on like this, despite losing hundreds of soldiers, all for that failure of a human weapon?!"

"That's right. No matter the cost, we must continue!" Ian ensured. "What other options do we have to break this deadlock?! We can only lay down our lives as brave sacrifices for that questionable human weapon."

Despite the other squad members rejecting his reasoning, they all finally decided to follow the chain of command and comply with Ian's orders.

Eva could not be more grateful. She was sure that Eren would come around and somehow take control of the titan body.

"Jaeger, act at your own free will" Ian addressed Eva, coming closer to her. "I've left Ackerman with him. She should be able to handle any treats that come close to him."

"She will," Eva reassured him.

"His body wasn't regenerating" Eva gasped at these news, "but the blonde boy just arrived when I left them."

Armin. He should be able to handle this. Mikasa and him will do it. I just have to protect them.

"Would you be okay advancing on your own?" Ian questioned.
